4 system playoff needs to go to 8

I think eight is ideal, all five P5 conference champ, the highest ranked non P5 champion, plus two at large.

77 nailed it. i also like first round at home.

5 p5 conf champs, 1 from non p5 if ranked in top 12 or 15, then two w/cards. this year it wud hv added wiscy, ucf and alabama to conf champs mutts, clempson, USC, Okla and Buckeyes. interesting notes: 1, USC gets in? 2, wispy-ohio st conf championship game becomes semi-meaningless if both get in? 3, seeding would become interesting. (in my mind, seed two from same conf in same bracket half and then you never have to worry about two from same conf in championship game, unless they're in top 4..this year they were so we're stuck.)

i experiment w/this every year and this year would have looked

1 clemp
8 UCF

4 alabama
5 ohiost

2 georgia
7 USC

3 oklahoma
6 Wisc

barring an upset, looks like nothing would have changed w/eight team playoff....but the ncaa would have gotten a bunch more cash.

Wrong dumbass. The P5 has bowls for break even teams. A winning record is Not required.

Of course, who wants to go to Shreveport in Christmas? Especially if you are a player.

So FatAssHead "boy "calls me an idiot which equates to mental retardation or a foolish or stupid person.

You do know that that terms idiot, creation, imbecile, moron, mongoloid all have a low functioning IQ attached to them? Yet you're so low functioning that you grasp for a common term to insult me with because of your lack of vocabulary. I would have been more impressed if you had called me by one of the other terms I listed! You are what you are though, a person with no original thinking or analytical skills.

Now many may call you a creation, imbecile, moron or mongoloid on this board, but not me. I mean you may be one of the above, but I haven’t called you one yet.

Why don’t you look up Cognitive Dysfunction and see if it fits you.

As long as we're maintaining the charade that these are all student athletes, four is a pretty good number. If we make the competition between school linked professional farm teams so these guys don't have to go to school, then expansion to 8 or 16 would make perfect sense. IMHO.

There are 13 (FCS) conferences with 125 football teams. The FCS can give out 63 scholarships.
When GSU was playing it went from 8 – 12 then to 16 playoff teams. Today there are 22 playoff teams.

· 10 conference champions receiving automatic bids into the tournament — those teams also get a first-round bye and 14 others are selected on an at-large basis. If you’re at the bottom of the playoffs it would take 5 games to win the FCS NC & 4 games from the 4th round forward.
· To me this is to many for financially strapped FCS teams, but if they can do it fine!
· Remember FCS has no bowls outside of the playoffs!

You can’t tell me that the P5 schools can’t run an 8-team playoff system with the top P5 conference champs and 3 at large bids work. Everyone else gets a lower level bowl game just as they do now!

I understand that, but your still talking the best P5 schools.
Look Boise State wouldve gotten into the bcs championship if they just didnt lose to Nevada. That was 2 teams! It's not impossible for a G5 team to get into the playoff.

I agree, just look at UCF. I wish the playoffs would have 8 with a P5 but for now I'd take the 5 P5Con. winners & the 3 best of the rest.

all it will do is take one more year of another SEC or conf getting 2 in and all others to be left out for this to change to 8 asap.

all the rumors are its going to happen before 2026 anyway. That the ratings will stink and the rest of the country is simply not interested anymore. This is the discussion. Hopefully it goes to 8 in the next 3 years. Then GT has a shot. All P5 winners, 2 at large, 1 non P5 school or if those are not good enough 3 at large....

its been southeast dominant. Teams in the big 12, pac 12, big 10 are all getting butthurt every year. Those fanbases are like whatever.

Expanding the playoffs would be super lame. 4 is plenty. Regular season needs to mean something. Get rid of the playoff committee, go back to computer rankings for the top 4.

More is better for Tech. We aren't going to crack the top 4, like ever.... I could see us putting up a 2009 (ACC champ) or 2014 caliber season and sneaking in on the back end of 8.

The playoff system needs to be looked at and so do conferences. Not only should we have an 8 team playoff but conference realignment has made college football worse. Eventually all the cable subscriber öööö is gonna go down along with these conferences that are built on that öööö.

So this is what should happen:
-6 or 8 team playoff
-Conference realignment to historical regional conferences. (P8 conferences)
For conferences you have 8 conferences of 8-9 teams(this is depending on how many OCC games are desired, but for each school's schedule, they are allowed 1 FCS and 1 non P8, the rest are against real teams so Alabama can't have 3 cupcakes) Round robin decides a definitive winner in each. Conferences are paired with championship games. Each of the 4 winners gets in to the top 4, then 2 (if you wanted 6 team playoff) or 4 at larges from G5, BYU, etc.

Essentially you just carry the playoff into conference championships but it is more organized.

Why do think that? I don’t completely disagree but I don’t completely agree either. Looking back st 2014, don’t lose to Duke OR UNC, and you’re a field goal away against FSU in the ACCCG from likely being in the top 4 playoff. Will we contend annually like Bama and Clemson? No way, but no one else is either.
It will always be an uphill battle for us as long as we have no pass game and a soft defense. Fix those things, win all our games, win the ACC, and we in.

Forget the playoff. Blow up conferences, combine FCS and FBS, and go to a promotion / relegation system. Top 14 team in the country are in the Premier League, next 14 teams are in the American League, then you go down to South 1, East 1, Midwest 1, West 1, then South 2... etc. To win the Premier League, you would have to play 13 of the best teams in the country.
