I would love to see us doing something like Autzen stadium where we just have one bowl and it wraps upward on the side by the bursar's office. The views of the old dorms and the sky line would be great from the home side. Throw in a shade and you're all set. Let the poor saps on the visiting side melt in the sun.

You do realize that the school can't do much of anything with the west stands due to OSHA, if memory serves that limits a lot of what GT can do to make the stadium more congruent, better, etc.

The man honestly deserves a statue outside of the stadium.

Outside the Wardlow building there is a plaque for fallen students from ww1 and 2, a Castleberry Statue there would be appropriate.

I like that we are doing all of this to be more competitive. From a design standpoint, I wish we took a step back to think more holistically instead of making one-off upgrades like this. It's beautiful, but it looks out of place next to the classic design of the stadium. Then again, I think the whole stadium could use a redesign.

The main issue is the Upper East. OSHA regulations say that a building with a free standing overhang cannot hang over a street (Techwood) unless it is connected to the other side - essentially forming a tunnel.

GT would be best served renovating the West sideline Upper East. Either take out a few seats and add hand rails or put in chairbacks for every section but the endzones.

My understanding is that the West stands were built prior to some of the newer OSHA standards and are grandfathered in. However, if the school were to significantly alter the West stands, they'd have to spend $ to bring those stands up to OSHA standard. This would be a good reason as to why the club seats are in the lower east as opposed to the lower west where (generally) the more monied donors sit.

Hell I thought it was just building codes that were the problem and we didn't want to spend the money to bring them up to standard. My understanding is that if we include those stands in any major renovation it basically triples the cost and is essentially a full tear down and rebuilding.

One other thing: I feel sorry for those poor souls that decide to occupy the upper north. I hope this all glass structure doesn't turn the sun into a magnifying glass during the noon kicks.

As I posted several weeks ago, Stansbury has talked about linking the North Stands to the Edge Building so that you could go into the Edge Building from the North Stands. The goal is to make the North Stands more desirable. My guess is something like a club area with alcohol in the Edge Building for North Stands fans.

I don't know much about OSHA, but I'm not sure what it would have to do with renovating the stands. I've always heard and assumed it was ADA, because the ramps and stuff over there (into the stands, into the bathrooms) is nowhere close to ADA compliance, but since the stands predate the law they are exempt unless and until we start modifying them. Bringing them up to standard would probably be a sizable investment above and beyond any other renovations we wanted to do.
