the rumors are true regarding Dewberry and other high profile boosters sinking $$$ into the program, contingent upon Whiz being hired as HC?

Where are you guys hearing these rumors?

Yes, if the AD thinks he's the best coach we can get. If not, we'd lose money in the long run.

Here's my question. If these Alums supposedly love Tech so much. shouldn't they want to help the program regardless of who the HC is?

Sure and they do help the program a ton. I don't think it's crazy that bigger checks come with bigger input, though...

That was not the case with CPJ so I don't think so. If you're donating 7 figures you probably feel like you should have a say.

Rumor doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I mean, yeah I get it, Tech men, played together, yada yada. But I just have a hard time imagining that Ken Whisenhunt has been this wet dream for these guys all these years and now they're going to go all in. If a truly big name coach had Tech ties, sure.

But, if true, for me to support it, it would have to be game-changing, compete with Clemson type money. Even then, you take the money, upgrade and dump KW in 2-3 years if he hasn't won anything or pulled in big recruiting classes.

Talk about selling your soul. All I’ve heard for 11yrs is we need to stop settling mediocrity yet we are doing that in the name of funding. F that

Not sure I’m following you, ibee. How are we settling for mediocrity (or as the dwag board calls it, mediocracy)?

Hell no. Until we hire him - then I'm all aboard the hype train.

Yes, if he hires excellent assistants using the additional funds, he leverages his NFL experience in recruiting and we recruit nationally like ND and Stanford.

I can get behind anyone, and I will get behind the new HC. But what kind of money are we talking? We need 50+MM.

Guys who want to give that kind of money want power and to be on the inside. I imagine CPJ kept everyone out of the program. That's the only reason I could see Whisenhunt being so popular with the "money". They can increase their influence on the program and massage their massive egos.

And so if the money wants Whisenhunt, isn't that yet one more reason not to pick him? Cause it always works out so well when boosters run the program.

I don't believe it's enough money to make a difference. If they're willing to build us some type of magical new facilities with putt putt and nap rooms and all those things that recruits seem to love, then sure. But I highly doubt that's the case.

If you are ok with a complete overhaul, having an HC who hasn’t recruited since some of these athletes were even conceived, and are willing to accept anything less than 7 wins the next few years then you are settling. There is nothing that suggest, other than nepotism, KW should be #1, 2 or 3 on priority list.

Collins was 3rd on my list but at least i know he’ll get high level ballers in here

If they want to fund a big time program, then bring on KW. But that will require getting involved with the board of regents and Ga politics too. Bama might own their state, but Auburn can’t be ignored. Same in Texas. We haven’t had that kind of support in sports since the 60’s and Dodd’s folly.
