I don’t believe any of this nonsense. If they love Tech and want to see Tech succeed they would have dropped money into the program already.

Even if it is true, you’re telling me Dewberry will donate $X million if Whiz is hired. Fine but what if he wins 5 games in three years. Are we allowed to fire him? I don’t like the idea of being held hostage by someone’s “donations”

TLDR— No. I am not on board regardless of donations. Tech’s problem is not solely financial. Unless all of our impediments are addressed any effort will fail.

The BOR is stacked with mutts. It is why attempts are made to lessen GT engineering. As an SPSU grad, I knew SPSU posed no threat to GT and was just a small niche school. Pairing with Kennesaw basically told any future SPSU enrollees "may as well go to UGAg". I am a Kennesaw State alum now due to the BOR. However, if Southern Tech had been taken over by Kennesaw in fall of 1984, I would have attended elsewhere.

Think about it for a minute. If a big booster says hire my guy and I'll pony up for the buy-out if he is a bust but don't hire my guy then don't call me when we need to buy him out then as the AD, you have to take that into consideration if the various candidates are otherwise compelling.

I could be ok with Whisenhunt regardless of the Dewberry money; but he isn't one of my top choices. I also don't think Dewberry has the kind of cash on hand to make T.Boone Pickens like influence on the program; but it would be nice if someone did. Top money would do a lot to get top Offensive and Defensive coordinators and assistants, it would not be something to be ignored to get a fan favorite coach.
 
We could probably compete a lot better if the invested that money in bagmen.

If the deal is "Wisenhunt plus 500k per year in bagmen," we could have a pretty good football team.

If the deal is "A well-behaved chimpanzee wearing a tie and hat plus 500k per year in bagmen" we'd have a pretty good football team. The first part of that equation really isn't as important as the second.
 
As I said in another thread, it's frustrating that these big money/big influence guys seem to be so hung up on an era of Tech football that was almost completely unmemorable, irrelevant, and accomplished next to nothing. In Whisenhunt's 4 years under Bill Curry, the team went 1-10, 6-5, 3-8, and 6-4-1. Why is that what we're aspiring to?

Let's get back to those glory days, where some guys that knew Bobby Dodd turned the program around from 1-10 to 6-5 and then back again!

The debtor is slave to the master. If the coach is the term of your debt then you will be slave to that coach's success. It's a bad situation to be in and a trap. Our athletic department would be a miniature Texas. If you absolutely have to do it then do it with the coach you think gives you the best chance even if it means less donations.

We already know, at this point, how to bypass every NCAA rule against paying players.

Have the big money boosters put together a law team that unravels in detail the NCAA rulings on Cam Newton and UNC Academic Fraud. Develop an ironclad plan to game their shit system based on the newly established precedents - which btw were established after we made our last coaching hire. We know from the Cam thing that paying a player's mom is totally legal. We know from the UNC thing that giving athletes free degrees is totally legal as long as ordinary students are also in the free degree classes.

Roll those two things out, in exactly precisely the way that they will match prior NCAA precedent.

Have the big money boosters dedicate $500k per year towards totally legal and rule abiding bagmen to pay moms and dads through shell charities via the Cam program. Use that money for 5 recruits per year. $100k each. At any given time, this will give us 20 to 24 four star plus players on-roster, basically our starters.

If our boosters really want to run the thing, run it like that. It's way more effective use of money than additional facilities. Do an ROI. Hire the lawyers. You can even do it above board now that the NCAA has capitulated to CFB being a semi pro league. We don't even technically have to cheat. We just have to be very very explicit at following the precedents the NCAA set for the prior cheaters.

CPJ probably could have been moreso, for whatever that's worth. Just spend 4 of the 5 bagmen per year on defense and one on a QB.

I think your one mistake in this line of thinking is assuming that NCAA has a set of laws/rules/standards that they adhere to, other than "öööö you Georgia Tech". Miami gets away with it because they're Miami. UNC gets away with it because Dean Smith and basketball and the buckets of money that the tournament makes every year. Auburn gets away with it because SEC Strong!

I think UNC, Tennessee, etc have shown that it does actually take both parts of the equation.
 
Seems backwards. Kirby demanded UGA commit to extent needed to win MNC before being willing to take job. Same with Jimbo at A&M.

IMO candidate shld be driving the change.

You shouldn't "feel" like you should have a say----you SHOULD have a say. Who else but "the money" should influence the program? The Student Council? Faculty Advisory Board?
