Help enlighten me on why basketball cannot bring in top ranked recruits given our excellent 100% all out congenial for the people never cranky never smirky people person and recruiting coach... is he just not dedicated like CPJ was not dedicated or did the option hurt basketball recruiting too.

By the way, I like the BB coach, I just don’t like some of you ; )
 
Kinda hard to compare to the situation Pastner is left with after the two previous coaches drove the program into the cellar of the conference. Collins is getting a competitve, if slightly downtrending, team. We'll see. I'm on the hype train until the football program is driven to a Gregory level of malaise. In the meantime, don't let your love of CPJ poison the well for the next coach because you're mad people haven't mourned properly for your guy by getting too excited for the new one.

Saban is an Ass and he recruits ok. O’L was an ass and he recruited well. Being a good recruiter has very little to do with personality IMO. Pastner does not seem to be a very good recruiter.

If you are looking for a serious response:

Basketball has suffered from a mix of bad breaks and GT getting in its own way.

Examples of bad breaks is a guy that CJP tried to help went insane (or further insane, as the case may be) and went public with crazy accusations and lawsuits, along with the scandal around Adidas hitting at the same time we announced we were going with Adidas. Both of these things put an undeserved cloud over GT.

Example of GT getting in its own way is the Coach Daryl Labarrie incident. From all reports, it certainly sounds like Labarrie should still be here recruiting and coaching at GT. Instead, GT played the patsy and parted ways with Labarrie. This really set us back, especially recruiting wise.
 
Collins has been here before, knows Tech, knows recruiting and he believes he can do it. So, I will believe him unless proven otherwise.

Pastner came from Memphis, which recruits itself in basketball. He took over a program that had become completely irrelevant, so it is a tough slog to try and change that perception.
 
I understand there are other issues... but there is a school issue that will effect both football and basketball recruiting... all schools face other issues.

So, it sounds like you weren't really looking for a serious response.
 
In two weeks and about 7 hours, CPJ will no longer be our coach. Do I hope he attends some games next season? I hope he does. I really doubt he does. Perhaps buying a some lake property in the North Carolina mountains will be more his lifestyle. Following his daughter as she performs may be his new fall thing. I hope he comes back to walk out onto the field for a ceremonial coin toss every so often and to be honored at halftime.

There was one good response on how bad publicity was negatively effecting recruiting. And I agree that might have a negative impact on basketball over football.


I think there is a correlation between the two programs and it has nothing to due with a coaches media persona or recruiting genius or offense type... but the school in general. GT is disadvantaged a little less than the academies and that is the major issue in recruiting.
 
Well you would be wrong. Hard work and giftedness matters a lot like in any job. Bobby Cremins recruited ok at GT.
 
3 phones and a bag man will get you a recruit that must pass minimums to get into GT and then must stay on course to graduate or... fail APR.

Thinking a committed recruiting coach will get GT to uga recruiting rankings is a false hope at best. Also the coach is going to have to start dropping or strong arming non starters to make room for new likely starting players.
