Houston Fires Major Applewhite

Temple

Steve Adazzio

Manny Diaz

Not as impressive as Houston but impressive for a small, private, basketball school in Philadelphia. UH hires are just insane. So, the two schools that makes the best hires consistently are both looking for coaches right now.
I've always wondered why the Big 12 hasn't invited Houston to join yet. They could definitely be competitive in that conference.

They don't expand the TV footprint so they don't really add any value. Do wish schools like Houston and BYU were in power 5 as they are historically strong football schools that are better than 40%-50% of the power 5 teams most seasons.

I do miss the old SWC, with Houston, Baylor, SMU ....

So why is Diaz a big deal? What has he done?

“Winning is define as 10-2, we fire coaches for 8-4”

Can we hire her to lead Tech?

She set the bar for football at 10-2 and got them a brand new medical school.
She did it on her own or was it the fact that Houston is a massive school spread across several cities? We are a tiny school compared to the UoH umbrella.

Am I missing something?

Wikipedia shows UH = 42k vs GT = 30k students. UH Budget = $1.5 B vs. GT Budget = $1.8 B.

Academically they seem to be similar to Louisville. Maybe we make an ACC offer?
That is only part of the UoH system. Overall, UoH is 70k+. She is the president of those 70k students. The University of Houston likes to ignore the students at the other universities in the system unless it suits them politically throwing their weight around.

Since when does GT have 30,000 students? I thought it was more like 12,000

So why is Diaz a big deal? What has he done?
Yeah he is least proven on that list but if your coach gets hired in 2 weeks by Miami, that was obviously an impressive hire.

Diaz will recruit very well at Miami. I assume he will do fine there, maybe really well. They will have a lot of talent.

So fire the Miami player, Hite the FSU player?

Well, Richt resigned

Yeah but Diaz is Miami through and through. Cuban-American. Born and raised in Miami. Father was mayor of Miami. He recruited Miami for FSU. Diaz will bring in a lot of talent for UM.

Kliff Kingsbury just turned down the HC job at Houston in favor of being OC at Southern Cal. I don't blame him at all. Good luck finding a coach willing to go to Houston when they "fire coaches who go 8-4" after only 2 seasons. They're gonna end up with somebody who's desperate and has no other options.
