Did not sign with Nebraska due to an arrest stemming from a no-show in court. Wish nothing but the best for the kid, but it seems Tech may have dodged a bullet by letting him go. A juco kid that got kicked off a D1 team with a police record doesn't sound very enticing.

Ok so the following popped up in my feed this morning. The phrasing sounded really familiar and yeah, total copy/paste. Did they rip that from here or from another site? Or are you "The Swarm" on FB?

What difference, at this point, does it make?

Hah! No, they must've copied it from here. That's hilarious.

I think the first phrase is a pretty common way to soften the criticism that is coming. Kind of like, "With all due respect, ......." But in entirety, is seems plagerized.

@BeeStorm, looks like Stingtalk is being ripped off.

Once you enroll as a freshman the clock starts. You get 5 years to play 4 seasons. A medical redshirt may get you season six if the NCAA agrees. Another arbitrary NCAA rule.
Are you saying the way the NCAA determines a “medical redshirt” is arbitrary, or the 5 years to play 4 is?

I don’t think one of those is arbitrary at all.. just curious.

The medical redshirt are arbitrary and subjective. The 5 years to play 4 is just a stupid rule. You should have 4 years of competition. The duration should not matter.

I think the exceptions for the Mormon mission or military service are arbitrary. I can think of a lot of worthwhile and noble reasons for young people to take a break from school (and sports), but I think the NCAA only recognizes those two.

Not sure, but at one time I believe duration did not matter. I believe the colleges decided that it wasn’t the best way to go with “S/As” hanging around for years and still having eligibility left. Not sure.

I think there may be some exemptions remaining as regards the “5 to play 4” when it comes to guys that might have gone into the military. Again not sure, But back in the 80s we had a consultant helping with an enterprise in New Mexico. He had played at TCU for a year or so, went into the Army, and was able to “pick up where he left off” as it were, after coming back home. Finished up at another college.

Again, don’t know if similar situation would exist today.

I remember how poorly we did against BYU and Utah, each of which had a number of older players due to their mission work. Not sure how this was worked, but those guys surely had a physical advantage over our 19/20 year old kids. I think 5 to play 4 without exceptions makes sense. When the NCAA allows exceptions, on balance Tech usually loses (we aren't as creative at stretching the rules as some of our competition, e.g., UNC).

A better rule would be to limit athletic scholarships to a max of 5 years (6 with a medical redshirt). If someone has a medical or family issue that causes them to interrupt their college career, they should not be punished.

I was very butthurt when Dedrick got kicked off the team. I thought he was gonna be a super star for Tech and he let us down. I read his story later and I understood why he ended up the way he did. I wish nothing but the best for the kid, hopefully one day he will figure it all out.
I want to see the young man succeed. And heck, Nebraska let that scumbag Lawrence Phillips play. Dedrick is a saint compared to that piece of work.

Lawrence Phillips isn't so much of a problem anymore.

Yeah he finally got into a part of the real world where his football prowess didn't cover up how big of a piece of crap he was and perhaps that realization led to him taking his own life.

PJ should take him under his wing. Move in with him. He needs a father/mentor. Mills can play in the NFL if he just quits doing stupid stuff.
