Nate Woody Hired at Ga State

Thats quite the demotion. P5 coordinator to GSU position coach.

If not for the 2 year deal, I would think Woody got a raw deal at GT. It was widely known that Woody's system would take over a year to fully implement and CPJ had already been thinking of retirement. It is almost as if we treated Woody as a ($600k) placeholder. I didn't expect him to be retained because of the switch to 4 man line and am glad he found a job this quick. He is a nice person.

Almost? He got a raw deal. The only way this makes sense for him is if he's more focused on not moving again for family reasons. It's unfortunate, but surely he knew what type of situation he was walking into here.

It is collateral damage, but he did get paid well. I was surprised he wasn't snapped up quickly by someone with all the coaching changes that occurred. Maybe it is an indication of where he stands relative to the industry as a whole. I wish him well.

To me this suggests that he's not valued by coaches nationally as much as he is by some on here. He's known since early December that he would need a new job (realistically there was little to no chance that Collins was going to keep the previous staff's DC, much less one who runs a different scheme), so theoretically he would've been in consideration for many other jobs. It's not as if he was on Miami's staff and had to scramble for work due to Richt's late retirement.

Nate Woody has been at three different schools in the last 19 years. Some people hate moving.

he's already getting paid handsomely for 2019, so he can definitely afford to take a position coach job if it gives his family some stability for a year. then he can hit the market again next year to try and land another coordinator job or move up to a P5 school.

I think he's a real good coach that isn't particularly interested in playing the game to advance his career, part of which might be the constant uprooting of himself. We did learn that, if he can be successful, it takes more than a season for things to come together.

I saw zero % improvement throughout Year 1 under Woody. Not a shock at all he got stuck at G State.

That might be a bit rough. The linebacker play was so subpar its hard to have a good defense when that position is such a weakness. There was pass rush improvement which was great.

Man we need some headhunters at LB...

He will still get paid more than most of the board. He'll be alright.
He gets whatever GT owed him which was like $500,000. I think GT just pays him less what GSU is paying him which is probably not much.

Which is probably not much like what? $100K?

Worst performance against Georgia that I’ve ever seen from a Georgia Tech team. Ever.
