RIP East Lots

GT emailed us with the sad news that the East Lots are no more.

Long live the East Lots!
How does this make sense? A push to increase attendance at the games while simultaneously decreasing available parking? Hmmmm? Game day experience.

Easy. Increase parking fees.

Somehow I don't think the value of Midtown real estate is going to be put on hold to satisfy our parking demands for 6 Saturdays a year.

I have a feeling we will end up in the CRC parking lot .. which mean even further walk.

I have always purchased parking game by game in the Student Center deck since we can only tailgate a few games a year due to youth sports and early game times. We live east so park across the interstate or take Marta when not tailgating to make the drive home easier/faster. With the loss of parking spaces I'm beginning to wonder if they will have spaced in the SC deck to offer for single game purchase.

It's not like it's that far of a walk. Plus, it's enough to time get through a road coke on the way to the game.

It's not that far of a walk, agreed. In fact I like the extra exercise. However, I have a 5 year old daughter. She can handle it and not even break a sweat but on the occasion she is not feeling great, guess who will be carrying her? Seriously, if that's where we end up that's fine. Interested to see how it plays out.

The solution is, establish several tailgating zones: Peters Park (yes demo the garage), Yellow Jacket Park, etc, and create shuttles from designated parking lots on 10 minute headways. Shuttles will have space for tailgating stuff as well. In fact, you could even offer storage lockers for tailgating stuff at adjacent buildings and people don't have to haul all their stuff that far.

They could have a drop off zone for setting up tailgates but would need shuttles or maybe just big wagons (think supersized radioflyers) to take gear back to the car. It will be interesting to see what happens when/if W21 bites the dust.

I’m going to assume that they will not.

Update, my group has been moved to the Student Center deck. Not really going to work well for tailgating so we're looking at other options.

Any other displaced East Lotters here?

Student Center deck is right next to the Instructional Center lawn which is a nice place to setup. The parking map shows Area 2 as available though I thought folks on here said it was eliminated.

Top of the deck isn't bad as long as it isn't too windy. The corners are great

Looks like we are staying in SC deck which is where we've been for 20 years. I'm good with that.

Yeah I think the SC deck would be fine if we didn't want to stay east of the interstate. Much easier to get out after a game from there if your destination is not up I-75, so no need to tell us for the 10th time about how you get out, @JJacket! :-)

If we were into hauling stuff over to the grass that would be fine, but we are more true "tailgaters" so that wouldn't work anyway. The lots over near 10th street are great for getting off the pavement and into some shady grass.

@gtg970g where did you see an updated parking map? I wasn't able to find it, although I still haven't gotten my renewal email yet for some reason, even though I'm already updated in the GTAA system.
