The Stingtalkers who say nay, demand a sacrifice.

Our starting five ended at:

6-6, 276
6-3, 280
6-3, 305
6-2, 310
6-4, 282

Are these "smaller linemen?" Seriously.

They're bigger than that now:
Morgans are 6'4" - 290
Cooper 6'3" - 315
Hansen 6'2" - 320
Minihan 6'3" - 290
Tufele 6'3" - 320
Maye 6'3" - 310
Lagod 6'0" - 285
Smith 6'5" - 295
Southers 6'5" - 315
Quinney 6'6" - 280
DeFoor - 6'5" - 295
Lay 6'2" - 300

By the end of camp, the 1st group OL was usually:

Quinney 6'6" - 280
Cooper 6'3" - 315
S. Morgan 6'4" - 290
Southers 6'5" - 315
DeFoor - 6'5" - 295

That's a lot of length and weight.

It's almost like people think 3-0 players don't know football and are having to learn. It's blocking and tackling and I'd say our offensive players have the basics down as good as anyone.

2008 season previews routinely trotted out some variation of "These pro-style players will have to learn an entirely new offense" to justify picking us as a bottom feeder despite us making 11 consecutive bowls at the time. It's not too surprising that we're getting the same lazy takes in reverse.

My take as well, though Johnson did inherit the 2007 class and a handful of All-Americans and future draftees.

I mean, I was pretty convinced they had no ööööing clue how to pass block.

It isn't easy to passblock from a 4 pt stance. The pass has to be a surprise, otherwise you're screwed .

Not having a 'everyone knows you have to pass' formation was one of CPJ's biggest mistakes.

Let us also remember that the best OL position coach in the NCAA left Bama to do the same thing here, replacing Mike Sewak.

The pass blocking may not be where we want it right away, but it'll be much better than the media seems to be expecting.

Agreed.
Our OL will be just fine. It might take a few games to get the really silly mistakes flushed out though.

The excuse about 4 pt stances needs to die. They were almost never in 4pt stances save goal line or tight yardage.

The problem with the pass blocking was physics and lack of knowledge. “80/20” and no technique.
