Patenaude

I don't see why some feel the need to crap on CPJ. He's likely to be a hall of fame coach and he's easily one of the most successful coaches that we've had in the past 50 years. I was ready for a change and am excited about the new direction but I don't see why our own fans want to diminish our accomplishments over the past 10 years, some of which haven't been seen around here in a long time

Pump the brakes on easily one of the most successful coaches.

We fired Chan for going .579 and not beating uga.

PJ had a .580 winning percentage and beat em a few times.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT PAUL DID WITH AN ANTIQUATED RUN BASED GAME.

WE HAVE TO THROW THE BALL OUT OF THE SHOTGUN EVEN ON 4TH AND INCHES, HAVE JUICE, HAVE A DJ, HAVE A JUICE CREW AND HAVE BRANDING BECAUSE THATS WHAT RECRUITS WANT.

RESULTS DON'T MATTER

SWAGGER MATTERS

I WOULD RATHER GO 0-12 WITH SWAGGER THAN WIN A TITLES AND BOWL GAMES UNDER PAUL JOHNSON.

WASN'T IT FUN HOPING THE DEFENSE GOT A STOP INSTEAD OF RUNNING A DEATH MARCH?
THE ONLY THING A DEATH MARCH KILLS IS RECRUITING!!

I'M OFF TO WAFFLE HOUSE TO ORDER A CHEESESTEAK OMELETTE WITH RAW SUGAR ON MY WAFFLE
Sugar ain't really raw, bro. It's been processed!

Thinking about what boss ross and gol inherited vs gailey and cpj also puts this in perspective.

The only coach who inherited a solid team on that list is at the bottom of that list.

Edit: and maybe Carson, I am not old enough to remember what he inherited.

Wat? CPJ’s first team has a number of top caliber players, including several players with long NFL careers. CPJ inherited a solid roster that the prior coach had pissed away with a öööö OC and inability to develop QB play.

LOL - besides the Miami game last year, when's the last time we had an actual Death March?

It actually WAS fun watching the Defense make a goal line stand to preserve the victory instead of watching a bunch of QB Option Keeper plays and sideline Hail Marys to try to move the ball downfield in under 2 minutes.

I'd rather win 4-5 games in a rebuilding year with improved recruiting than winning 3 games and having no bump in recruiting just months after winning the Orange Bowl.

And yes, running out of the 'gun on 4th and short IS stupid.

SO IS RUNNING B-BACK DIVES ON 3rd AND LONG!!!

I really like Patenaude, his press conferences are sharp and feel like he knows what he is doing. The results will have to come eventually, but it's unfair to really make much of a judgement until we can get the OL fixed and find (or develop) a QB.

Schematically, I just don't see issues. I think we're presenting a lot of different looks and a reasonably broad set of plays for an opposing DC to prepare for. We're still figuring it out. I do expect improvement as we go, given that the injury situation doesn't go further south.

Remove the 2015 team that had an incredible # of injuries and CPJ's winning % looks better as well.

Not saying that you are doing this, but I guess that I'll never understand the number of posters that run down CPJ's tenure here with each and every post--you'd think he went 4-8 every year for a decade. Team did quite good with CPJ here and I look forward to seeing what CGC and company can do with a different approach (hopefully, he can go to 2 Orange Bowls in a decade as well). :)

The issue isn’t that people sht on CPJ. It’s that some/most here and you seem to be satisfied with his performance and others were not and think he’s mediocre.

“Quite good” is going to a bowl 9 out of 11 seasons and only winning 3 of em? With the same win % as CCG?

BUT ORANGES!!!

BUT 3/11 vs UGA!!!

I also have no problem giving Patenaude time during the rebuild. My comments have been concerning the disconnect between what we’ve been told regarding the system versus what we’ve seen on the field and how it may affect recruits and brand. I could care less what we the fans think or even about wins and losses at this point. All I care about is recruiting and I’ve loved everything Collins has done so far. But I don’t see how running QB keepers half our plays lines up with the rhetoric. I’d rather see us throw 4 picks a game but also have flashes of the future than what we saw against South Florida. I’m an alum/super fan and I wanted to change the channel after Oliver’s 5th run to the right. I can only imagine what that 15 year old future 4 star player thought that we’ll need down the road. If we want to truly change perception we need to show it. Let’s come out 4 wide and chuck it around. The results of the games will be long forgotten as long as we get the recruits for the future.

Solid is understating it. The defense was incredible. A lot of those guys that wore blue in practice were some of the best players I ever went against including games.

He also had the privilege of a recruiting class that was mostly Gailey, that mostly decided to stay committed, and was relatively high rated.

That's evident only in hindsight. Tech was picked to finish last in the ACC Coastal and Vegas had the over/under at 3 wins.

It was not apparent that guys like Nesbitt, Dwyer, and Thomas would be stars. Dwyer and Thomas showed promise in 2007 but they could've easily have turned out to be busts. Paul inherited a bunch of proven guys on defense, but the offense didn't have anyone proven outside of Andrew Gardner.

Y'all act like it was unsurprising that Paul took a 7 win team to a 9 win team his first year, but you can't find one person who predicted that before the 2008 season kicked off. There's a lot of revisionist history with Paul's first two years at Tech.

We can't chuck it around until we have proper pre snap reads. That means knowing the playbook in and out. You all have to understand that this is a giant process to install a completely new way of playing and thinking about football.

We can't chuck it around until we have consistent snaps. Our centers got injured. Can't do anything about that except to teach the new guys.

We can't chuck it around until we have consistent pass pro. Hopefully the snaps in practice are good, because each rep is super important at this point.

Might not have been apparent to fans.

However, that's not the sentiment of any of the players- I'll go ahead and speak for everyone on the team on that point.

but the offense didn't have anyone proven outside of Andrew Gardner.

What an idiotic decision to run off James Johnson then. How's that for hindsight and genius moves?
