one of our commits being so awesome that Alabama might want him? yeah, sounds terrible.

put on your big boy pants.
there is also this part:
“I’m committed to Tech, but I’m taking visits right now,” said Jahmyr (pronounced Juh-Meer). “I’m going to Bama this week, then LSU, Ohio State and Florida.”

Gibbs said a strong push from Alabama could be a game-changer for him. It certainly was for Jacobs, whose best offer was from hometown Tulsa before Alabama offered while he was about to sign his scholarship papers.

“I’m very excited to be hearing from Bama,” he said. “If they come after me hard, I’d say there’s a strong chance of them being who I choose.”
this is where Collins can shine tho, out-recruit Bama

Seems like a good post for the recruiting thread (which probably could be stickied) @cyptomcat

Ohio State is after him also. I honestly would be surprised if we keep him. A couple of negative surprises are fine but I would also like a couple of positive surprises. This is normal ops when you are recruiting in the 30-15 range instead of the 45-60 range. A few GT fans are going to go ape but it is to be expected and the overall class is all that is important.

Better to be fighting these battles with OSU and Bama instead of GSU and AppState.

And the obligatory: I'm not worried about RBs.

No moral victories. We hired the dude to win. Anybody can offer bama recruits.

Hopefully Coach Choice can help our cause. This battle is important but the DT's and OL's are much more important given our current roster.

I will add, I hate to rain on his parade but he likely makes a mistake if he goes to Bama. Saban likes

Recruiting isn't "winning" especially individual battles. Johnson never lost one that really mattered but that means he wasn't battling on the right field. If Collins loses some recruiting battles of really good players then that is OK as long as he is also winning his share.

This is exactly the kind of noise we should want to hear. CGC is working to elevate the recruiting of our program, which is the lifeblood of all of the football factories (that and $$$ funding). Our COMMITMENT is a player that Ohio State and Alabama also want to sign. Now it's up to CGC and crew to get his name on the dotted line. This is much better than the alternative of us poaching him late from Wofford or somewhere...

I'm down with that, but if we end up with mid 50s recruiting I'm not going to sit with "at least were competing with bama now". If this kid leaves, that's a whack to our recruiting, where do we go to recover it?

Welcome back to big time recruiting. If the big boys are trying to flip your commits then you should feel good about your class. Losing a few along the way is just part of the journey and should be expected, not feared.

Not as much of a whack as you would think. 247 has re-evaluated him and he is listed as our 3rd highest recruit right now. Losing him would drop our projected team score from 202.53 to 196.86. That would drop us from 25th to 30th and we still have more recruits we hope to sign.. so likely we could still easily finish in the top 25. On Rivals, we rank 22 but Gibbs has not been re-evaluated yet. He is listed as a 5.7 3-star. Losing him would drop our point total from 1591 to 1501. We would still be in 24th before adding anybody else.

This is a good indication of how well we are recruiting across the board.

Looked at 247's team calculator...

If we lost Gibbs, shows our projected team score of 196.86 (bumps us down to 29th)
If we lost Gibbs and picked up Jayson Jones, it's a 205.05 (still 25th)
If we keep Gibbs and get Jones, it's 210.17 (puts us at 22nd all the way ahead of Stanford)

Some of those would likely pass us again though with more room in their classes
