Is McCollum as fast as Ahmarean Brown?
I think Brown’s speed is on a different level than McCollum. There were a few plays in his highlight video where defensive players caught him from behind. Slot receivers don’t have to be lighting fast though. Navigating traffic is most important.

Saw that too. He has a very fast 40 on the recruiting websites and that is usually from a combine iiuc. So even as fast as he is, that kind of straightline speed isnt as rare as I would think in GA high school football.

You want to see insane different level football speed that interception this year where the two Alabama WRs look like the Herbie special effects from The Love Bug is simply amazing.

As a developmental program, I expect N8 to get even faster once we get a hold of him. Starting from where he already is I could see him having that Brown or Bama WR next level speed by the time he is a senior.

It is just based on we have 15 WRs coming back next year (including the recruits). That is a lot more than most schools. Seems like 10 is closer to normal.

FWIW, Temple does have 16 on their current roster.

I don't know what is normal for us and of course, there could be some attrition.
Unless you have a 4 receiver set. Gonna break the playbook wide open.

We are wanting to get to the point where we can spread 3-4 highly talented WRs out and sling it all over the yard, while mixing in read option and RPO concepts. Going to be a Big XII-ish offense and nasty when everything is in place.
Very shrewd point. But. So u know. We will be more similar to Texas with a dash towards Oklahoma than a leach texas tech. We will run alot. But in a spread.

I don’t know much about him as a baseball player. Any concern he gets drafted high and never comes?

4th best attribute: catch radius for his size. Strong hands. Goes to get the ball. Plus body control when he does.
3rd best attribute: vision with ball in his hands. He'd be our best A-back since Roddy if we still did that.
2nd best attribute: balance. Elite balance. That helps in many aspects of football. On special teams, he would not stay blocked because of it. He could prolly play defense comfortably. When opponents tackle him, they better stay on the play until the whistle and not assume a knee is going to touch, or the next sound they hear will be the crowd ooo-ing and ahhh-ing.
Best attribute: Toughness for his size, and attitude. On the field in all sorts of packages on special teams and even defense. I predict he will wear a single digit at some point while here and turn out to be a team leader during winter workouts. Great teammate. On this aspect alone, I would rather have N8 than Downs.

Other comments: I can't judge speed by HS film, cuz high schoolers have ability gaps. I just know he was fastest of his teammates downfield on KO coverage. When he was caught from behind, he was not in full stride. Otherwise, he would cut and zoom and he was gone. Seems to do a good job of finding soft spots in zones. A bit concerned that I did not see him work the middle of the field on patterns or run short patterns that relied on elusiveness. He either sat in zone, ran deep, or was given the ball in space and told to create. Not saying he is not elusive in his route cuts. I am saying I'd be happier if I saw it.

Dont think so.
Not so sure.

If a team wants to bid high enough, they could take him in one of those first round compensatory picks. N8 could be an electric shortstop or CF.

Thing he needs to work on is he is a bit late starting his swing. In HS, you can get away with that. In college or minor leagues, you cannot. So he can learn to read and anticipate pitches in college while here. If he does that, I think we lose him after 3 years on campus.

If he never learns, he plays football for 4 years. But some team may decide it is teachable and decide to get him under control asap by overdrafting coming out of HS. He has elite speed, body control, and is strong for his size. A good compact swing by a player his size is a thing of beauty.
