Okay, gentlemen and possibly ladies, let's keep it clean and honor the Queensbury rules.

Okay.

So like many fans my greatest point of confusion is Collins choice to rely on King, who is now 3/7 on field goals for the year.

More frustrating is that Wells was perfect in 2018, but only 0/1 this year. I found myself greatly frustrated he wasn't brought on to kick this year, even after his lone miss.

My only conclusion is that the mental pressures of kicking in a game situation are so different from practice that the most important traits a kicker can have are entirely mental. I also worry that by benching Wells CGC has negatively aftected his mentality thus spoiling his most valuable assets.

Does anyone agree? Is this concern moot until our offense can play a competitive game?
 
So OP's guess is Collins gave Wells a scholly he wasn't obligated to give, then benched him with no good reason, thus destroying his confidence and wasting a scholarship in the process.

Or might it be more reasonable to think that a professional coaching staff is entirely capable of evaluating a kicker's mechanics and accuracy in practice and Wells just didn't have it this year? Additional evidence for this point of view would be the fact that Wells shanked everything he kicked this year, in warm-ups and games.

In the interest of politeness, I will request that you at least consider not killing yourself.
 
I would politely include Harvin in this discussion. His consistency really fell off in the second half of the year.

I wonder if there is something in the kicking practice routine that has introduced the equivalent of a golfer's "yips" into these guys' heads.

Once you get the yips, it's hard to shake them.

If kicker A goes 3-7 and kicker B goes 0-1, I don't think it is logical to think that kicker B is better than kicker A. Especially if you do not see practices and kicker B is missing a lot in warmups. You did see last year's kicking performance, which may have you biased considering you only saw one kick this year. The coaching staff saw hundreds.

Holy hell. Some people are ultra-sensitive about any perceived questioning of CGC’s decisions.

I wasn't the first time I heard it. When King was trotted out the first time, I thought it was a legitimate question, for sure. But this dumb take was repeated for about 600 pages over on the swarm and I just took it out on this guy, I guess. Thought it was clear the OP was trolling with the bit about the offense at the end, anyway.

That's probably true. We've had quite a few discussions of this intermingled elsewhere. It is such a weird situation though with huge gaps in understanding. Piecing it all together as a fan is a mess.

1) Kickers are weird beasts.
2) Loads of juxtaposition going on. Performance of King/Wells last year. King's performance this year. Wells being in the dog house, out house, or somewhere else.

It's just weird all-around.
 
Weird is probably the best description I've heard.

I guess it's time to chalk it up to growing pains/transition and wait out the offseason.

Finally, a fresh topic. I put some thought to this. If you are kicking someone to save his life, for instance kicking him in the nuts to get him to roll off train tracks in the face of an oncoming train, is it still impolite? At this point he is in a great amount of pain but better than he would be without being kicked in the nuts.
 
I can't remember, was it King or Wells that made the like 50ish yarder that got called back for a penalty or timeout or something in the Miami game?

Snuck up behind him and cut his hamstring. Now, he pushes everything to the right. He'll quit the game.
