My opinion?

Eye test. They are clearly the team on paper that should have made the playoffs.

From what I have seen of them they just dont have "it". Fromm and Swift had these weird beavis and butthead looking on-field conversations like they didnt know wtf was going on. Other than their defensive backfield, performance seemed remarkably inconsistent compared to other Georgie teams Ive seen.

Sometimes a team ends up nowhere close to the sum of its parts. On paper, the sum of the parts Georgie assembled should be impressive, but put together they make a lemon. I have no idea why.

Even their own fans sense that something is wrong over there. But "on paper" they have one heck of a collection of athletes.

And before anybody gets all huffy, there absolutely is such a thing as an 11-2 lemon.
They have a coaching problem. Kirby would be getting his arse handed to him if Urban Meyer were still at Florida and Tennessee was anything close to where they are capable of being. Georgia is enjoying a honeymoon period of relative weakness in the SEC East.

That seems to be the consensus from their fans. Will be interesting to watch that develop as they made some coaching changes this year.

The SEC East will continue to improve. Georgia Tech hopes to improve. In a couple of years Kirby's strength of schedule might be significantly different than the last two seasons. Also recruiting competition should get tougher.

At the very least, there is no way they should be ahead of Oregon, who beat the former # 5 in convincing fashion. But you know the reason. ($EC)
So they don't have to listen to Kirby cry like a bitch?

Auburn beat Bama with Bama using a backup qb
And Bama looked like the better team that day but had 2 awful turnovers. They likely beat Auburn by 10 with Tua.

So if this poll is for how a team played all year (so includes Tua) then Bama is too low. If it is how the team was playing toward the end of the year, then Bama is about right but UGA is over-rated: they offense is broken and the defense beat up a ton of bad offenses. It likely couldn't compete with the top offensive teams in college football, like the 4 teams that made the play off.

This. SEC East is historically weak right now except for uga.

Thinking back over the last decade (2010-2019):

uga had seven 10+ win seasons.
UF had four.
Mizzou had two.
USC had two.
Kentucky had one.

The SEC east is cheeks.

Name 12 teams that are better than Georgie and the purpose of this thread will be known.

Unfortunately, the scoreboard stats for COFH probably helped their perception immensely. Namely, the final points and yardage numbers. Especially true for anyone that didn't watch or only caught the 2nd half.

It is becoming more obvious to me that today you better have what we are recruiting, long and fast, fast. Not so sure having the really big DLs is the way to go any more. Any one have any thoughts on this? If I'm right then CGCs comments about pass rushers would be what he would be recruiting, DEs and OLBs and we build them into interior DLs??

No, I think most good teams still have at least 1 really big, really good interior DT. You need 2 or 3 just for depth and injuries. If you don't have that, then OL get to your LBs and can run on you at will.

Great DTs can really effect games in your favor but they are hard to find.

Who cares. History will only remember who is the Champion. Everyone else is not the champion.

Therefore, UGA ended the season the same as us.
I use to not think this way but the older I get the more I do. I posted after the UGA game that come mid December we would feel better about our future than UGA would. And here we are. It’s amazing how success is all relative. I hope our fan base enjoys the building process and doesn’t lose it after every loss. There will be a time for that but we are not there yet.

The SEC bias was in full force this year. Ark, usc, ole miss, msu, candy and Missouri are easy wins. It’s like playing in the AFC east. You get six easy wins, plus one Ooc, and then you only have to win one real game to be included in the hype. The hype puts six of them every year into the Top 25. It’s eady from there.
Tech can move into this category and if FSU returns the conference will have more hype.

I got a UGA question for the lurker dogs. They seem to be taking a small class this year. High quality, but small. Do they not expect to lose/process many players?

Is Kirby not a processor like most of the others on the rivals top 25? Is this just an anomaly?

Just curious.

I think Bama is better, but you can argue that on paper the dwags have a better resume. Their losses are worse, but they have a few wins over teams that finished fairly high in the rankings. Alabama doesn't have any.

I know it's easy to say that the Dwags got blown out by LSU and lost to a bad SC team, but let's remember that heading into conference championship week in 2014, there was a far-fetched possibility we could make the playoff with a win vs. FSU...and we had two pretty bad losses that year.

It's small now, but I expect it will get closer to full on signing day. They may not even have the room to take a full class, as they've been taking large classes for the past few, although 2016 may be helping them a good bit:

2015 - 29
2016 - 21
2017 - 26
2018 - 26
2019 - 24

They have 14 commits right now, and I expect they'll sign anywhere from 18-20 in December with room left to pluck some guys that are holding out until February.

Recruits are figuring out he's a POS.

That's what I choose to believe, anyway.
