Cotton, Camping, Peach, Fiesta - "So long, losers!" Edition

Trying to sort through 10 teams with zero or one loss who only have a handful of common opponents total is absurd.
Among P5 teams I’m willing to always give the undefeated team the nod. That solves all these hypothetical problems.

And if 5 teams go undefeated from the P5 conferences? We’ll just hope that doesn’t happen?

You’d be cool with Tech going 13-0 in 2022, barely finishing 5th in the standings because the Coastal sucked, and watching the playoffs from home? With the justification being LSU beat OU by a lot that one year?

Hey Mt Union won every game for like a decade and had to settle for crappy Div III championships. The whole conundrum is resolved if you just recognize that G5 schools are functionally in a different league from P5 schools. No undefeated P5 school has been left out and I doubt they ever will.

I look at this from a historical perspective. Once upon a time it was pretty common for multiple teams to finish the season undefeated. Now we’ve got folks complaining some two loss team deserves a shot. We’ve come a long way. And while sometimes the imperfections of the system are frustrating, this season justifies no changes.

as several broadcasters have pointed out, it is rare for the semi finals to be competitive. That just demonstrates the separation at the top any given year is real.
If we're that willing to accept that G5 teams literally don't have a chance to compete for a title, why are they even in FBS? The whole reason for creating FCS and FBS was to avoid this scenario, right? So either we need to split it again, or we need to give everyone a chance.

This is what needs to happen. 4 P5 undefeateds.

We need to split it again or create a G5 sub title. I get that G5 teams have a zero percent chance of winning a title in the current system. If you let them in the playoff, they have a 0.5 percent chance and we have to waste everyone's time with another lousy game every year.

All of you turds could just follow NFL football and leave college alone. They already have everything yall require.

This. Playoffs don't determine the best team. They determine the hottest team at the end of the season. College football has been unique (along with motorsports, until NASCAR instituted their own retarded playoff) in crowning the best *season*, from the first game to the last. Some don't like that. I think it is special.

Golf does it the best with new FedEx cup format. You win the regular season, you start the Tour Championship with an advantage

No of course I wouldn't be cool with it. But the chances of it happening just like that are so incredibly remote that it doesn't make sense to screw up a really good system in favor of the one-in-a-billion chance.

I do, too. That's why I'm tired of seeing overrated SEC teams who didn't even win their DIVISION getting a chance to win the title. Alabama has won TWO championships recently in years where they didn't even belong there. I'd much rather at least give a G5 team a chance than see something like that again.

I think they're in the FBS for historical reasons, which have turned into economic reasons. But I'd be totally cool creating a G5 championship. Heck, I think there already is one – if anyone remembers you three or four years later, you won the G5 championship. As of this moment, I think only Boise St and UCF have won G5 championships.

I agree completely about this – you should have to win your conference to get into the playoff.

But changing that rule has absolutely nothing to do with expanding the playoff.

I saw nothing wrong with the original system whare every organization named a national champion, so there could be a bunch of them.

Who can forget Bubba's Transmission Shop National Champion in 1973?

Clemson and LSU are the two best teams and the playoff got us that matchup. The BCS would have gotten us LSU-OSU (without looking to see what the computers said before yesterday). The playoff is working as intended.
You are correct
