CPJ Mad Bro

So much wrong with your post. I will just mention one. That is not an objective fact. It was a subjective unsourced memory of a subjective opinion.

And while you may be able to source someone who projected us to go 3-9, yes it was a fact that it was his opinion but it was not an underlying fact that we were a 3-9 team.

It was actually a lack of confidence in the incoming coach Paul Johnson. Chan Gailey had a winning record every single year he was here, with a lot worse teams. That 2008 team had a sound foundation, so there was no reason to project them to 3-9 unless you thought the incoming coach was going to be suboptimal.

Can you post a prediction from a major sports writer that predicted us to win bigly in 2008?

Those predictions were based on the assumption that we didn’t have the players to run the 3O.

Looking at the schedule and imagining a returning Chan they’d have pIcked us to win 7 or 8. Add an extra FCS game to the Chan Gailey Equilibrium and you get 8 wins.

Since I am unlikely to have cared what ignorant sports writers thought then, why would I do that research now?

It wasn't a fact. It was an opinion... by people who can get the degree to do that work from UGA, so it is not exactly rocket science.

But I know that anything printed by an authority figure is gospel to you, so I don't expect you to understand it.

So now we are now changing the narrative that 08 & 09 were not loaded with talent? Geez Louise

2008+2009 teams were extremely talented. Particularly 2009 IMO. Truly believe we could have been undefeated. Miami game was 3rd game in 12 days, uga could have been won. Iowa IIWII but think we could have won with a fully healthy roster.

So basically none of the football people were predicting GT to win in 2008.

Did you happen to notice that Techbert didn't bold anyone in some position groups? FWIW one of the better players in the unbolded position group I noticed, posts on here. And based on some of the names he did bold,.....

I went to every home game we played the last time GT went undefeated. I will just say that to compare the 2008 or 2009 roster to that team is pretty bold.

Our OL were good for the option, but not for other styles (Mason worked himself into being NFL capable, because his measurables really aren’t ideal). Abacks aren’t good for much in the NFL (not the small quick ones, unlike O Smith). That takes out about a third of your starters. Toss in an option QB not being desirable in the NFL and those draft numbers look just about right for the system.

Where the issue becomes apparent is post 2016. After Gotsis and DJ White were drafted in 2016, the only 2 draft picks have been a kicker and a grad transfer TE that Collins brought in from UConn. Otherwise, we have been shut out 4 years in a row. Johnson's last 2 mediocre seasons and Collins' rough start are not a surprise.

We had 2 first round draft picks in the 2010 class. Of those measly 8 NFL guys from that roster, they accumulated 58 years in the NFL, 707 games, and 515 career starts. The next 12 that made it to the league over the last 11 years have a combined 44 years experience, 476 games, 203 career starts. Almost half of those starts belong to Shaq and nearly 20% of the total games do.

I wouldn't say it's bold to compare the 2008 or 2009 roster to any former GT team from a talent standpoint.

In the 3 seasons preceding Johnson arriving at Tech we were ranked in 22 of 45 weeks.

In the 4 seasons preceding Collins we were ranked 3 of 60 weeks and zero times in the previous 45.

We were 30-21 in the four seasons before Johnson. 27-21 against the FBS. 20-12 against the ACC.

We were 24-25 the four seasons before Collins. 20-25 against FBS opponents. 14-18 against the ACC.

In 2007 we ran off a coach for not winning enough. In 2018 a coach retired because it wasn’t fun anymore (aka he was losing too much).

This should be pinned to the top of every Johnson/Collins thread. Since wins and losses is all it’s about the above thread should end all debate. Johnson inherited a legit top 30ish type team. Collins inherited a shart sandwich.

But the 2018 class was a big step in the right direction. That is why I blame Bobinski for his lack of funding. I think the typical CPJ class is more like the 2018 class.

CGC has beaten that class twice, imho. That is good. We are going to have to see if the coaching for that better talent matches CPJ and Gailey.

Which of teams you are comparing above went undefeated????

Dude you are picking a strange hill to die on. I never said anything about any of those teams being undefeated. But I would still not think it's bold to compare the talent from those 2008-2009 teams to any past GT team. Every team is not created equal just like every season is not created equal.

Not strange at all, I was responding to a guy who thinks the 2008 & 2009 rosters should have went undefeated. We've had teams that went undefeated. Some of us remember one of them. I would never think to compare an O'leary, Gailey, or Johnson roster to it.

If you think the 1990 roster is untouchable in terms of talent and not even able to be compared to the 2008 roster, I don't know what to tell you. The thing is, back then, the factories weren't what they are now. The gap has grown exponentially and the major players in CFB have all gotten better. Yes we were great then, but as much as you don't wanna hear it, it isn't that we were that much better back then, it's that everybody else is that much better now.

Bitch, please.

I paid more attention early in the list, and I paid more attention with the really great defensive linemen late. I mean, Johnson, Richard, Walker, Morgan??? Geez, Louise. That would be a high-quality pro line. I didn't post one name cuz I don't doxx or come close to that. And I wanted to highlight the quality we had back then in the trenches, as opposed to the exact opposite your hero left behind. We just wanted to find 4 defensive linemen some games, and they sure were not Johnson, Richard, Walker, or Morgan.

And I said nothing about the predictions of idiots so don't read too much into that. But you do. Cuz that is what you do and why you are so miserable.

If the Peach Bowl didn't show you how many holes the 2008 roster had in it that were covered up most of the season with a gimmick scheme; then there is nothing I or anyone else can say that will help you. But to go undefeated in 2008 like was stated that roster would have had to have been as good or better than Urban Meyer's 2008 team that won the championship. That is freaking insane. In 2009 they would have had to beat Nick Saban's 1st National Championship team which is again rediculous. So compare the 2008 and 2009 rosters to their contemporaries if you actually think that makes the argument better; but I get a very strong vibe from your post that you weren't old enough in 1990 to remember it and are just parroting what you've been told.

Jaybo Shaw. You took the trouble to bold Shaw and left other position groups purposefully blank. So just STOP.
