You know Lincoln was a racist bigot and the cancel culture hate him right??
We-el, I’m not much for labels applied by ideologs to other ideologs. Suffice to say that lumping Lincoln with his bigoted contemporaries is as poor a reading of history as the Lost Cause myth by which some anoint the Confederacy as a defender of states rights.

Coit, wasn't there a time we played "Dixie" 3rd quarter?
Sorry, I been AWOL this week. I don’t recall it, I’ve been going to games since early 80s.

I take it the student body hasn't expressed much of an opinion on this? They're too damn busy with classes and projects to care much - or at all - about it, I'd bet.

At least we're not the University of Texas. Some football players and band members have refused to participate in the traditional postgame rendition of 'The Eyes Of Texas', and big contributing alums are cranky about the refusal. A perfect Texas s##tstorm if there ever was one. Turns out the tune was written for a minstrel show before it became 'I've Been Working On The Railroad', so the argument is on a whole different level than ours.

So who got quoted?
Here's the relevant passage:
Technique said:
Others disagree with the change and see no problem with the current lyrics. A recent thread on the Tech sports forum, Sting Talk, includes numerous opinions, mostly from Tech alumni, on the issue. A user said, “So moron faculty members want to do this?” Another added “If it’s going to be changed, it should be the students and alumni deciding, not the faculty.”

The topic was also recently posted to the Tech subreddit, with many also disagreeing with the change. An anonymous user posted that “focusing on complete non-issues like this only serves to divide”, and “it’s kind of like crying wolf.” Another pointed out that the lyrics also explicitly exclude non-engineers at Tech, which make up over half of the student body.
Yet another gender dispute where right thinking people will roll over and give in rather than defend the damn honest obvious truth about men and women.

I wish they would quote mine about miserable people, because then you're cutting to the heart of the matter.

The song doesn't say either the son or the daughter are GT students, so the word "join" is just pinhead dumbassery.

Oh if I had a had a daughter sir, I'd dress her in white and gold.
And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son sir, I'd tell you what he'd do
He would yell "TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!"
like his daddy used to do.

At what point are either students? At what point is the daughter not included? You can interpret the song as a dad taking his 6 year old son or daughter to a football game. Hell, I always kind of thought that was the gist of it anyway.

If they are going to do this stupid change, to make it really make sense they should guarantee admission to legacies - son or daughter. But the same people going for this dumb change would be screeching about that being racist.
