Who is the best returning running back in the ACC?

Gibbs is a unique talent... Love that we have the depth to keep him healthy and develop talent underneath him.

Looks like we made a lot of highlights on defense too…oh.

Cool to see Gibbs getting some love, hope we can keep him healthy.

My favorite play we ran last year was when we would have him come out of the backfield and run a little angle route (I think that is what it is called).

The WRs would run deep routes and clear out underneath and he would look like he is going to the flat or possibly running a wheel route before cutting back across the middle. That worked several times to get him a mismatch in space.

Gibbs is the best player since Calvin. It’s up to the coaches to utilize him unlike the memorable 9-6 ACCCG.

Now, for the love of all that is good please have Patenaude have every play that Bama ran against Ohio State last year In our playbook. That play where they simply had Smith go in motion in the backfield and then reverse direction which gave him a quick pass with 1 on 1 coverage against a LB or DB worked every time. Forget the talent level. Bama just simply out schemes everyone because Saban doesn’t expect anything less and demands it. We run that same play with either Gibbs or McGowan and it works every time. The blocking doesn’t even matter because it is such a quick hitter with everyone going in the wrong direction. If we keep running the standard route trees which means the OLine has to hold blocks we could be in a trouble. With the weapons we have (including Sims legs) we should be able to run a quick hitting scheme with our eye o YAC’s (yards after catch).

Only RB in the world who can make a cut without slowing down at all and go from 3rd to 5th gear in the next millisecond.

It's an option route. Gibbs and Sims read the LB/S whoever is coming up to cover him. If he hesitates/stays in the center of the field, Gibbs turns on the jets and runs a wheel, if he bites hard on the flat, Gibbs puts his foot in the ground and cuts it back across the middle.

Unfortunately that was the play where he was injured.

We should be running the ball 60% of the time this year. I’m sure Sims has improved but I trust the talent in the backfield more. I’ll be very happy to see Johnson and Cochran on the OL together too. Absolutely we need to feature McGowan, Gibbs and Carter in the passing game but for the most part, run the damn ball.

Yep, there's little argument that we have the best RB group in the conference. 2 former All conference guys, and a 3rd that would likely start for a number of teams in the conference. We need to pound the football. With that said, teams will put 9 in the box until Sims shows can make deference pay for it. Hard for any team to run with 9 in the box every play, and even the CBs peeking back there.

Having a 6’5” 225lbs WR in Leo Blackburn will help with that. An improved OL will also help.
