Even given the wrong data, the choice of Tech over Georgie is clear. this is b/c of some weird reason that the magazine chooses to use 15 years as the period of return, and not a normal working lifespan which is typically about 30 more years than that
anyway, here is my response to that Georgie dude:
Like a typical Georgie person, you didn’t even realize that you are proving that it’s better to go to Tech.
If only you guys could look at numbers and not think that they are something on the back of a jersey or something.
Would you rather invest $1 and get 200% return or invest $5 and get 100% return?
If you can do it only once (like going to college), then you would NET $2 with the first investment, but you would NET $5 with the second investment, even though the rate of return is higher. So rate of return is only one consideration. Clearly, you would rather make $5 than $2, right? Even though it’s a lower rate of return, you would (if you were smart) pick the second option.
So, let’s look at the REAL FACTS:
1. University of Georgia
Median Salary: 3 Years After Graduation: $44,100
Out-of-State Degree Cost: (Class of 2005): $54,742
Median Salary 15 Years After Graduation: $86,000
Out-of-State Degree Cost (Class of 1993): $14,450
Average Payback: 338%
Comment: At the oldest state-chartered college in the country, the most popular majors are business and marketing, chosen by 20 percent of students.*
4. Georgia Tech
Median Salary 3 Years After Graduation: $58,300
Out-of-State Degree Cost (Class of 2005): $59,896
Median Salary 15 Years After Graduation: $106,000
Out-of-State Degree Cost (Class of 1993): $24,684
Average Payback: 263%
Comment: According to Payscale's alumni salary survey, six of the top ten highest-paying college degrees involve engineering. Georgia Tech's engineering school ranks among the top five in the country.***
And now compare:
Georgie $44100 $86000
Tech $58300 $106000
Where would you rather be? Making 86k or making 106k? Now lets go ahead and make the return period not 15 years, but another 30 past that, which would be typical. Hmmm, 30 more years at 20k more a year…. So who has the better return for the period of time that it is actually likely that you will work for, instead of some arbitrarily short period of 15 years?
Also, this study (if you bothered to read it) only accounts for bachelors degree student, and clearly Tech has a higher percentage of students going to post graduate school. So that helps Georgie’s numbers relative to Tech
PLEASE stop trying to make it sound like you are better served by going to Georgie over Tech.
A)its not true
B)you just make yourself look stupid by insisting on it while the numbers don’t bear it out
