Who was your NFL MVP?

By your analogy, Flacco should have gotten rookie of the year over Ryan?

I think it could just as easily be argued that Flacco deserved rookie of the year...

or chris johnson, or matt forte, or jonathan stewart, or desean jackson, or eddie royal... there's a lot of good rookies this year...

Flacco is the first rookie quarterback to win a game on the road in the playoffs. That's an impressive first I must say.

p.s. I couldn't remember how Pittsburgh Troy spelled his name.

Troy Palomalu born as Troy Benjamin Aumua, but now legally named Troy Aumua Palomalu after adopting the use his mother's maiden name (Palomalu) and then legally changing it.

my vote for MVP:
James Harrison, OLB for the Pittsburgh Steelers

My vote goes to Jon Kitna.

Without him injuring himself again, Matt Millen still might be around.

Ed Reed was the best football player at any position in the NFL this year.

I heard no media outlets mention him, but that's who I thought should've got the award.

The logic behind Matt Ryan over Flacco was in the fact that Flacco had a monster defense that he could count on. Even the playoff game, the Ravens forced FIVE turnovers. That was a classic performance by the Ravens defense.

I think the only other two rookies who should have gotten serious consideration aside from Ryan and Flacco were Matt Forte and Steve Slaton. Desean Jackson disappeared towards the end of the year, Jonathan Stewart was splitting carries with DeAngelo Williams as opposed to Forte and Slaton, who were pretty much the workhorses in their respective offenses.

In that case, Matt Ryan was helped out hugely by having the NFL's number 1 rushing offense take all of the pressure off him.

Because LeRon McClain and Willis McGahee are absolutely terrible running backs. They should never be starters in the NFL.

Yeah and because keith brooking, lawyer milloy, and john abraham made up such a terrible defense... ;) i can go all day...

ohh and btw, Matt Ryan had way better receivers to throw to, and had better preperation playing in a big time bcs conference as opposed to FBS which is where flacco played at Delaware...

At all makes what Flacco did that much more impressive!

Ryan > Flacco

This is indisputable, for anyone who's actually watched games by both this year.

Manning also won 9 straight until yesterday on a team decimated with injuries again. The other two guys are not in his league.

Ah shaddup! What do YOU know??? ;)

TO is my choice simply for not breaking down and acting like a 3 year old when Dallas completed their meltdown.

Yeah because Matt Ryan was stellar yesterday and Joe Flacco put up a real dud!

Dude, I watched them both all season and both did what was asked of them all season. Ryan was given a slightly bigger role, which was why he won the award, but they both performed what their teams needed of them.

The Ravens' were ranked #4 in rushing. Only two spots behind Atlanta @ #2.

On the other hand, the Ravens were #3 in scoring defense with Atlanta at 11.

Ravens 2nd in total yards, with Atlanta all the way at 24.

So, the comparison of rushing attacks as opposed to their defenses doesn't hold up. The difference between their rushing attacks is FAR smaller than the difference between their defenses. The supporting cast edge goes to Flacco.

Also, bear in mind that Flacco originally went to Pitt, and transfered to Delaware to assure himself playing time. He was FBS calibur talent coming into college.

That is a very poor way to gauge rookie performance. I mean, some rookies are asked to only perform on special teams. If they do that well (what is asked of them), does that mean that they deserve a ROY award as much as Ryan, Flacco, Forte, or Slaton?

Well, compared to the Ravens, the Falcons defense was terrible. Seriously they were decent, about middling in the NFL. But the Ravens are on a completely different level.

just want to bring this thread back up. After another HUGE improbable win, I still content that Werner should have been MVP. AND Flacco put up a pretty good performance too...

I have to add that Warner gets wayyyy to little respect for what he has done in pro football. When he was at St. Louis we was treated as a side act to the "greatest show on turf" because Marshall Faulk was so damn good. But now that he has shown he can win with the Arizona Cardinals, of all franchises, I think he deserves a bit more credit as one of the better NFL QBs. Not to mention, he has pretty darn good staying power. The guy is 37 years old and still playing like a 20 something.

If he would have finished the season up strong he probably would have been mvp. Remember it's 16 games. Eli deserved it.

Flacco didn't exactly have the greatest game in the world. He played well, but not any better than Ryan could have done in his shoes. Warner, on the other hand, did play well.
