Bowl Games Watched

As conferences have gotten bigger and more spread out, they've really lost a lot of their identity. I used to root for the ACC pretty hard, and loved seeing how the conferences differed and which way each was trending.

Now I really couldn't care less. Even the SEC is no longer going to be the SEC; it will still be called the SEC, but really it will just be the top flight of semi-pro football.

Since bowl season was all about seeing inter-conference matchups you wouldn't normally have, its lost a lot of its luster for me. I haven't been watching much.

I would definitely watch the CFP bowls if they weren't on NYE, but...well...they are. It's like they don't want me to watch them.

This is a weird comment. Gibbs is a legit Heisman contender on any team with a pulse this season. Think you picked the wrong player for this quip.

Agree. Also don't see where anyone thinks Sims is a Heisman contender, though we probably do overrate him a bit. I mean, Gibbs just got picked up by the best team in the country and they don't bring in transfers for "depth" because they don't need to. Not sure what else people need to see.

I haven't watched any, but will be at the Beau Rivage in time to place a bet on Michigan straight up against the ööööhead dwags.
If I were to bet on Jawjah, it would be the absolute kiss of death.

Especially not when he's likely only going to be there one season. They have to think he can contribute immediately in a big way

There a significant step from contributing at Bama to winning the Heisman. That said, if he wins the Heisman I guess I'll end up with egg on my face. The quip was because it is easy to assume a great player on our team is the best in all of college football when all you watch are not just crappy ACC games; but just our crappy ACC games.

Just got thru watching Army vs Missouri on dvr. Prolly the only one I’ll watch start to finish.

As of now, 16 bowl games have been played, I have watched small portions of 5. These games are crap, there are no fans in the stands, and bowl games simply don't mean anything anymore. In the 1980's GT went to one bowl game -based on today's standards they would have gone to five.

Watching today....Go Auburn, and Air Force...Also watched Wyoming defeat Kent State. Probably going to watch a few more

Ask this question after we get further into Top Fifty games. I watch most of the ACC games but there haven’t been any and UL played poorly as they did much of the last two years.

Going to the Peach Bowl tomorrow, it’s been a while since I’ve been to a Tech bowl game :bowrofl:

Watching the Cheez-It Bowl and #29 for Iowa State opted not to play in this game. My question is, why in the world was he allowed to
even make the trip???!!!!??? Geeze give him his bowl booty when the teams gets back from the bowl game. Colleges have got to grow some
and quit giving in to these SA's. As I have said before the SA's are in control now and not the colleges that have given them full-rides to their
schools.

You might as well start calling them semi-pro players now, because they are no longer amateurs anymore, because they are being paid,
by the colleges that recruited them to play football. So much for all the money spent on recruitment of these athletes, and the quality
education some are receiving at elite colleges and universities.

Yeah why are the Playoff games on New Year's Eve? Why not have them on New Year's Day? It'd make a lot of sense for people to watch them on their day off. Most people, myself included, do something to celebrate New Year's that's not watching football...

The playoffs have caused a lot of the bowls to lose any luster. Along with the corporate bowl names. Add in severe dilution of way too many bowl games and this is what you get.

Chop the number of bowls in half and you would get more interesting matchups and fan interest likely as well.

As expected, money came in and messed up college sports

of course. I just believe that it happened quite a while ago in collegiate sports. I don’t think anyone really believes that it is amateur competition at the major Div I level anymore (I was just at that point 20+ years ago).

I think it was the mid1990s when it really started to get ramped up. The bowls started going from names like the citrus or poinsettia or peach to corporate name bowls. At least, that’s my memory of when it began. Prior to that, it was an issue but just not as rampant.
