Well the AP thinks that Florida is the best team in the country. Utah came in a close second and USC in a close third. I disagree whole-heartedly that Florida is the best team. After watching the BCS national championship, Oklahoma, USC and Utah are all better than Florida. Oklahoma failed to capitalized within the 5 yards line twice last night, giving Florida the win (and that was OU playing without their top return man and top running back). In the end it was a beauty contest, Tim Tebow won the AP national championship, not the University of Florida or Urban Meyer. I think I have heard Tim Tebow uttered more times than the name of the school for which he plays.

If you had left the garbage about OU being better, I would have agreed. But saying that OU is the better team less the 24 hours after they lost is ridiculous. Bulldawg fan levels of ridiculous.

Florida made the plays, Oklahoma didn't. You're not a MNC team when you turn the ball over in the red zone twice in one game. Sorry

Texas and USC have a claim, but its all in the system they signed up for. Utah is the team getting screwed.

Until someone gets some balls and challenges this this thing, these debates will continue year after year

Flordia took the ball both of those times. They stomped OU's cock on the 4th down run play. The second time the ball was tipped.

The next time OU gets 1st down inside the 5, the QB should take the shotgun snap and kneel down. They would have a much better chance of scoring on 2nd and 12, than 1st and 5.

I was about to say the same thing.

+1
How can you honestly say that OU was better than Florida that night? Florida's defense stepped up and stopped them (yeah, Florida stopped OU, OU didn't screw up) when they needed to. When their team needed points, and yards, Percy Harvin and Tim Tebow both came through with big plays. I don't see how you could say that Florida is definitively worse than USC or Utah. It's not all about whether you blow out your opponent or not. Hell, I think Oklahoma would have beat Utah the same way they beat TCU, while a USC-Oklahoma game would have most likely turned out the same as the Florida-Oklahoma game. Which brings me back to saying that a Florida-USC game would tell us the most about who's the best team in the nation, although Utah has as legit a claim as anyone.

"Better" has nothing to do with it. Utah went undefeated with a respectable schedule and deserved a share of the title.

If it came down to better, not many people would disagree that USC would be favored over everyone right now.

Personally, I love the Gators, as we all should. Dawg nation hates their butts for kicking their ass most years. UGA picked #1 in the first poll, and their most hated SEC rival ends up first in the final poll. I love it! It don't get any better than that, unless it was us instead of UF.
And if Tebow played for us, we ALL would have our noses up his ass!
But I would love to see USC play them now. I would put my money on the Trojans.

This point can't really be argued. I was commenting moreso on the "The best team" argument. I'm not ready to fully crown USC just yet, as I don't think their offense would do much against Florida's defense. If OU can be held to 14 points (a team that averaged over 50). What would USC do? Do you think Ohio State, or Penn State's defense is better than Florida's? What about Arizona who held them in the teens if I remember correctly?

Sorry, anyone who actually watched that game and came away thinking OU was the better team should lose posting privileges on the football board. Utah is probably top 5 but would not have beaten either of those teams or USC. They should be thrilled with their #2 ranking.

I think they should be pissed about #2. Nothing about last night's game proved to me that Utah couldn't hang with the two teams I saw play last night. They ran the table, they beat everyone they were given and they get second place. This is worse then the Auburn case a few years back, and it basically reinforces the notion that non-BCS schools are second tier.

Sorry, but most "experts" believed Alabama would easily beat Utah as well, until they didn't.

Until someone actually does beat this Utah team then they can legitmately claim no one can beat this Utah team. (Not that I would bet on them to win any particular matchup, but you have to respect that they have stepped up to every challenge and no other team has done so this year.)

This reminds me of the Uga fans that said georgie was the better team after our game. I wholeheartedly despise Florida (and Oklahoma for that matter) but Florida was the better team because they won the game.

As for the BCS, everybody knows it is a crock of s**t. It will remain that way until everybody does the right thing, the thing that is fair to the players... put in a playoff.

Until that happens, the pansy conferences up north and out west can keep their mouths shut or have a tougher schedule. Utah played one game all year. Florida had a hellofa schedule and deserves the championship.

I agree with all of this, but at the same time what would USC's defense do against Florida? If Alabama and Oklahoma can hold them to 31 and 24, what can a team that had >40% of plays run against them in the regular season go for negative yardage do?

It's a crying shame that we can't see this game happen. Do it PPV style if you're worried about team and crew expenses. Is anyone going to tell me that 20M people wouldn't buy this game for $19.99?

Florida's the better team because they won the game, but also because they outgained Oklahoma 480-363 and had a higher yards-per-play (my favorite stat right now) at 6.49 to 5.19

Exactly. To me, there is no reason why those schools are in the same subdivision, when one can go undefeated, and only get #2 AT BEST in the Polls. It's counterintuitive to dividing Division 1 and lower divisions.

How about this. 25-23 over Michigan (the worst UM team is probaby 50 years?), 30-23 over Air Force (really, Air Force? decent team but within 7 of the national champs?), 13-10 over New Mexico (that's 4-8 New Mexico for those keeping score at home). You guys can go on about their good games, but every one of those scores is not national championship worthy. Plus their big win was 13-10 over TCU correct? The same TCU that OU housed 35-10?

FL ranks ahead of Utah in scoring offense and scoring defense, total offense and total defense, and turnover margin. Utah was 7-0 against teams with non winning records, FL was 4-0. Sorry, but while I think Utah is good, I just don't think they're that good and the only reason anyone is talking about them is Alabama played like crap in their bowl game.

Apparently you, along with everyone else who replied to my thread thinks that the better team NEVER EVER loses. Every game ever played in existence in college football, according to your logic, is won by the better team. So I guess you should follow the logic of that "my team is better than yours" website posted earlier this week if you truly believe that. So, according to you, Ole Miss is better than Florida because Ole Miss beat Florida.

We lost to UVA so apparently UVA is better than us?

Hey, LSU beat us, but the AP ranked us ahead of LSU ... what's up with that? I guess it's a damn crime that LSU is ranked below us in all the end of season rankings because they beat us and apparently the team that wins is always the better team, especially if it is within 24 hours. On a side note, LSU should be ranked ahead of us after the way they absolutely dominated us (unlike Florida did to OU).

Except their win could be described as too little too late to make them a top 25 team (I wouldn't exactly call it little but I didn't feel like making a new phrase)

No we watched the game and are convinced that the best team did win.
