Realistic expectations

But weren't we led to believe that Collins would improve the talent level to a point where we could compete? Has he made good on that expectation? Also, all the coaches that we constantly bash and often, rightfully so, weren't they Collins' hires? There are several components to being a good head coach and to date, Collins has failed in all areas.

I don’t know how anyone can judge the talent of this team given the awful coaching most of the players have received. If a chef cooks you a terrible meal, you can blame the ingredients, but it might just be the chef.

A fair assessment, but almost any of these could go either way, really.

We needed a miracle to beat Duke last year, but gave Clemson all they could handle. We had a good shot at UVA and blew it, and inexplicably manhandled UNC. Collins has beaten FSU and Miami before. Pitt lost their all-star QB finally.

We could win anywhere from like 2 to 10 of those games, but my head and heart say it’ll be closer to 2 than 10.

Pitt and VT “highly unlikely?”

I’d actually put everyone except Clemson and Georgie in the “Possible” category. I don’t think we’ve got any certain wins, but I have a good feeling this offense will keep us in most games.

Then why keep the chef?

We haven’t really competed against Pitt or VT under CGC. While Pitt is a good team, VT has been bad but balanced. And both teams are reasonably talented. We just haven’t been able to compete against a team that didn’t hurt themselves. It’s possible one of those teams plays their worst game of the year (UL 20, UNC 21, Clem 21), but I would expect us to be heavy underdogs against both.

For the possible group, I would expect a one possession spread for those games. For Pitt/VT, I would expect a 10-14 spread.

I can't imagine Pitt not taking a step back after losing a first-round NFL QB. I suspect much of their "rise" in the last couple of years had a lot to do with Pickett being older than some of their coaches. They do have a good defense, though.

VT has been too inconsistent for me to call them something other than "Possible."

Eh. QB questions for both of those teams and a new coaching staff for VT. This may be the year that their recent bottoming out in recruiting finally shows up in talent on the field, as well. I put them in the possible category. Really, every Coastal game is in that category for me. But I'd say I feel better about Pitt/VT than UNC/Miami, actually.

Because it's expensive to replace the chef and his kitchen staff, so you'd better be sure it's the chef.
I have no doubts so I'm not going back. When the restaurant loses enough patrons, guess the chef and maybe GM have to go! And the kitchen staff (scape goats) for the most part, have been replaced.

PJ was basically a glorified sous chef so now that executive chef GC has hired a competent one of his own the "muh cooking" crowd should be in wait & see mode. Most of the leftover ingredients have expired so it's time to see what's cooking on the Flats in Fall '22

Cpj wasn't perfect, but let's stop with the dumb analogies as they do nothing to explain how a "db guru" hc had one the worst secondaries in fbs. Cpj at least knew how to coach his bread and butter position.

Geoff really excelled as a Lil Caesars Sign Spinner, so Pizza Hut took a chance and hired him as store manager. Naturally he sucked at it much worse than his predecessor, but it was pizza hut so kinda hard to öööö that up too bad. How he convinced T Stan from that that he was qualified to run a P5 star restauraunt we may never know, but its been a disaster ever since.

It’s funny that you think Tech was a “P5 star restaurant” when CGC took over. Tech was more like one of the restaurants on “Restaurant Impossible.”

That’s just silly. Win OB, miss bowl, win bowl, miss bowl, losses bowl. We were erratic, but nothing near impossible.

If you want a restaurant metaphor, we had an Chili’s under Gailey, we switched to a hibachi under Johnson, but we wanted to be a Brazilian Steakhouse so we gutted the place. Collins has gone 3 years selling salad. Nobody goes to a steakhouse for salad.

Right. We’ve been selling leftover shrimp from hibachi during lunch hours and people are expecting the dinner cuts even though it’s not dinner time yet

Not surprising you are too dense to understand a play on words and would take that literally.

Edit - and not surprising you would cry about it either.

Based upon program history one should expect to win around 60% of regular season games played, or 7.2 wins in a 12-game season. So I expect to win 7-8 games year in and year out.
