David Sims on GT

One of the coaches this morning was asked if he was built like nesbitt. The coach replied with no that he was a touch shorter(bout 5'10") but he was definately faster than nesbitt and can really throw.

A short QB will never excel at GT.

signed,
Joe H.

I like 5'10" QB's from SC that can run and throw!

I wonder how Doug Flutie was able to become such a proficient college passer? I know he's the exception, not the rule. Was Reggie's problem really that he was too short, or was this just a convenient excuse to mask other "real" problems?

Sims can be a great college passer. His height won't be an asset, but it doesn't have to be his Achilles heel, either.

So Jaybo came in last year saying "I want to be the next Tech QB to beat Georgia," and then fell short when Nesbitt beat him to it.

Now Sims comes in with "I want to be the next Tech QB to win a championship."

Reggie's problem, first and foremost, was he had no idea where to throw the ball.

His second problem was he was wretchedly inaccurate.

His third was he cracked under pressure.

Other than those 3 things he was a pretty good QB. ;)

In defense of Reggie, he was probably at the right place at the wrong time. In a different "O", he might have been a pretty good QB. I could see him running the triple o, or a TT / OU no huddle in the shotgun.

I would guess that CPJ, being a Southerner, will understand Sims no matter what part of SC he comes from. It took O'L a while to catch on to Joe's speech patterns.

There's only 6 words that they will have to mutually communicate.

Give it dammit!
Keep it dammit!
Pitch it dammit!
Throw it dammit!

Edit: And I forgot, most importantly:

Don't Fumble dammit!

you also forget that Flutie was around when the linemen were not (on average) near as tall or as big as they are now. there were like 5 linemen over 300lb in the NFL about 5 years ago or something, now there are over 50.

when Flutie played it was MUCH EASIER to be a short QB than now. that is fact, not fiction, as beej's disparaging remarks are

Does this mean Laullen will be the QB for the next one? ;)

I wouldn't go that far but I understand where you are coming from. In Houston we had 5 guys over 300 that was in 88, In Buffalo we averaged about 3 a year and we were one of the smallest groups in the league. Again, I understand your point.

I tried unsuccessfully to find video of the previous David Sims at GT. Can anyone dig something up?

I had forgotten that his brief NFL career with the Seahawks was pretty good (leading the NFL in TDs) before an injury took him down.
