which freshman is most likely to make a impact

I have to agree with your updates. I like Reid a lot on one corner. A lot. He showed a lot for a frosh IMHO. I'm not positive Reese will continue to start over Coop but for now you are 100% correct.

And I'm still puzzled at WR. We had issues there in 2008 and we had a few redshirts available which were not burned. Does that mean that it was not a 'no-brainer' that they would help? If so, we will need someone to make a big step up (unlikely but possible) or one of the new WRs will have to produce from day one as you submit.

Also, I'm insane but I'm still not sure that Morgan at CB would not have resulted in a better overall back four than we finished 2008 with. Insane I know and aided 100% by hindsight.

I see what you're saying and somewhat agree. However, MB is so good that he needs to be in a position where he can be a factor on every play. If he is at CB then he is just isolated to one side of the field... (~50% of the plays).

I don't think one side will ever be able to prove to the other side on this one. BUT, I will say, that other than UGA and maybe FSU, the defensive backfield was not the cause of concern on our defense. If it had been the biggest issue more often, then I would have been screaming for MB at cornerback also.

Jemea Thomas and the squat LB, can't remember his name. Those two are the best two players in the class right now. That may change in a year or two, but those two are football ready now.

Who do ya'll think will have a better chance starting at WR, FR-Stephen Hill or RFR- Quentin Sims? I remember hearing good things from practice about him.

If we can get Tarrant back on the field, he will be the most significant and positive impact on our team next year. Of the freshmen, I agree with BOR, Thomas is a natural born baller and Burnett (see my avatar) is a tackling machine. Both are capable of playing right now.

Go Jackets!

Without a doubt, Jemea Thomas is the most game ready player in terms of the speed of the game. I get the feeling that he will not even blink at this next level of play...he will just come out going full speed.

It will just be a matter of understanding how to read what is going on.

God I hope JB and JT don't have to play this year. We have alot of depth at those postions soo that not a good sign if true freshmen are high on the depth chart.

IMHO, at times our on the field performance at LB left a lot to be desired. I don't want to overanalyze possible causes. But I will say that if Burnett cannot perform better than the worst LB performance from last year then I would be disappointed.

Having said that, it would be poor if there is no significant improvement in LB play for 2009 and JB has to come in as a true freshman to save the day.

As far as JT it depends if he plays safety or CB. If he plays S in 2009 it would be due to injuries or he is a total stud. As far as I am concerned CB is wide open and if he is in the top 2 CBs he should play now.

We can worry about 2012 later. We may only have Dwyer and Morgan one more year and we need to field the absolute best 20 players around those two guys and see if we can make some noise in 2009.

I would love to RS Hill. I think if David Cone and Quentin Sims step up and Tyler Melton shows good development, we will RS Hill and try to save him til we really need him.

I also want to see Daniel McKayhan on the field. Returning kicks or something.

I think Robbie Godhigh could be a big factor as early as next year. the kid is fast and really really hard to tackle. can bench press 400+ lbs. he will be a great return specialist and may get a few reps at a-back to relieve the big guys and let others redshirt next year.

i really think we have enough people to fill the wide reciever positions so we can redshirt Hill next year. quentin sims, tyler melton, and of course BeBe will be fine for an offense that is not prone to throwing the ball.

i definately think we will be redshirting our qb's this year. Sims and Luallen are the future there. i wouldnt be suprised if they come in after there redshirt year to start over Nesbitt. Nesbitt is our guy for now and has to capable back ups in Shaw and Washington. Washington redshirted last year so he has had a little while to become familiar with the system and we all know Shaw is the perfect back up. The redshirt year will allow Sims and Luallen get a feel for the system and we could see them being extremely good. i would look to the one that doesnt get the starting job to switch positions.

corey earls moving to the defensive side is very intriguing. i like this move. he will be a nice addition to the depth chart. i like butler, reid, frierson, and peterson especially if tarrant is back and earls can play the position well. there is no need to put MB at cb he needs to be at safety. that is where he can make the biggest splash. upon further research our secondary is pretty good this upcoming season.

our linebackers will be ok i think. some need to step it up. this i see is where a incoming freshman may play. thats only if the current guys dont prove themselves which i think they will.

our defensive line will be totally new with morgan being the key piece to it. all in all they will end up being ok.

we are returning pretty much our entire team. there is no need to burn a players year of eligibility this year. the key positions that we may see a freshman coming in and playing is linebacker and defensive lineman. after it all i think we could redshirt a lot of these guys for the future!

IT IS GREAT TO BE A YELLOW JACKET!

Hill will not be redshirted.

I have no idea where you are going with that one..

I can't predict which one, but I think one of Foster, Jackson, or Beno will make the most impact.

I think PJ has said for a freshman to avoid redshirting, he either needs to clearly be the best player at his position, or that numbers at the position force him to play in the rotation or on STs.

What I'm most happy about at WR is competition and depth. Hill will get his chance to earn a starting position. He must prove that he can block and get off the line against physical DBs. If he can do these things and/or return kicks I doubt he redshirts. Would like to see him bulk up a little bit this offseason.

Due to the evident lack of competition at the position, I can't imagine anyone having a bigger impact than Hill. I look forward to seeing PJ open up the passing game a bit more with 2 quality wideouts.

That being said, I'm not an expert on OL play. I know we sure need improvement there though. Maybe one of our freshman will step up on the OL.

i just dont see the point in using him if quentin sims seems to be alright. i mean we will have the same receivers as last year plus sims...with bebe, tyler, and quentin thats three legit recievers when we only utilize two at a time anyways.

Hill is on a whole new level athletically than Sims, Mckayhan, Cone, etc is....

Hill will get the start opposite of BayBay. Melton will be the 3rd WR coming on the field.

Ill be pumped either way! Im really excited to see if they can open up this offense itll be a great season! already got the schedule plugged into phone!
