“I don’t see hustle. I don’t see toughness. What I do see is that he flashes brilliance once in a while and that’s going to make people want to take him.”
Mayock went so far as to question Johnson’s heart.
“If you take that little nose tackle at Iowa, Mitch King, and put his heart in Michael Johnson’s body, you’d have a Hall of Fame player,” Mayock said. “I just think Michael Johnson is so talented, but he’s wasting it.”

Huh? Are you kidding with the no heart thing? Wow. He probably cared and played with more heart then anybody.

Would Michael be removed from the draft if he ate that guy alive?

7:55 p.m. Michael Johnson annihilates Michael Johnson on a sack. Johnson is 6’7”, 260 pounds, and built like someone made of pure muscle who eats only other people made of pure muscle. If you missed this live, just replay any of the scenes in Predator where the Predator ices one of Arnold’s men, and you’ll get the right scene in your head.

Maycock doesn't like him at all?

At all?

You have GOT to be kidding me.

Josh Nesbitt doesn't have any heart either. As a matter of fact, none of the Jackets have any heart.

From the pictures it looks like Maycock doesn't have any heart when it comes to putting the fork down. I hate what the NFL draft and the analysis that goes with it have become.

I got a nickel that says there is some kind of holographic image of Mel Kiper piped into the draft room. The rumor is that it takes 10,000 computers just to render his hair alone.

Well I am a big MJ fan, but I will agree he was not agressively rushing every play. It seem as if he was laying back, but I assumed the coaches had him doing that in more of a pass defensive mode. If you look back at the blocked pass he grabbed and ran in for a TD he was laying back in a pass defensive mode instead of a rush defensive mode. To me the coaches had him doing this.

Someone on the panel said exactly that, that you have to understand what the coaches are asking a player to do. Also John Gruden was laughing at the guy basically.

Anyone who's been around Michael for any period of time can tell you Mayock's full of shit.

That is not Mike Mayock, draft "guru". This coming from a draft junkee.

This is Mike Mayock.

I have no problem with any analyst questioning a player's strength, or technique or anything like that. But this guy seems to really have a personal axe to grind about MJ's heart. To me he's way over the top on this and Gruden called him on it.

This is Myocks time. Scouts don't listen to these guys. They will take in what they say but in the end their opinions don't matter.

I will say this though, MJ should have gone to the combine PERIOD. This will hurt him. As I said before he has a lot to make up. He will be a project.

the thing with MJ, in my opinion, is that when he did make a great play, and he made a lot of them, he made it look so easy. The best example was the Maryland game two years ago where he flew right by the guy attempting to block him, two plays in a row, to close out the game.

When you make plays like that, and make it look so easy, people expect you to do that every play. The reality is though, like people have said, the coachs here had him dropping back a lot. And it didnt help that everyone, except for maybe UVA, double teamed him.

The frustrating thing is, as a scout, that guy should know better. He said MJ had no heart without offering anything to prove his point. It seemed like he almost said that just to spite MJ and/or GT.

He is not a scout anymore -- he is paid talking head for NFL networks. He is paid to say flamboyant things -- if he is wrong, people may write in, but he and Kiper are paid to give their analysis -- and if they can make headlines while doing so, so much the better.

on the hive his father made a brief post thanking those for supporting MJ

My take on this is it seems that w/ Vance, Daryl, and Derrick Morgan that MJ should have had more of an impact. I am not sure that MJ had the best year out of that group but what do I know.

I know that when you look at his frame he will get his NFL shot.

For more of Mayock's "genius" or lack thereof:

“Moreno is my No. 1 tailback,” NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said. “His lateral quickness and explosion are amazing. I’ve never seen a guy in the last 10 years who finishes every run the way he does: dropping the shoulder, not running out of bounds. I love the kid’s toughness. He’s the kind of kid I’d want on my team. He’s shown me his toughness on tape. He’ll block people; he’ll do whatever you ask him to do.”

Guess he has not watched the film of NoShow taking himself out of the game after every other play.
