CPJ on radio now (9 am)

Awesome intervivew. Makes me feel good to have such a great coach at GT.

Thanks for the summaries beej.

Man, September can't get here soon enough!

Not to be too much of a downer, but was anyone else a little put off by the ugay discussion? He seemed to downplay the rivalry a lot and at one point said something to the effect of "Richt has done a great job and built a really great program over there; we are going to try to start building something great too".

I only caught part of it so maybe I'll being too selective, but really ... Ouch.

I have thought about that a lot, because it's not the first time he's said it. My personal conclusion: it's fine when you win. If he loses the next two and continues to take that attitude(publicly), then he will be in the same hot water as Gailey, and I doubt Radakovich will be as forgiving as Braine.

Now, he is saying that publicly. Do I believe that's how he feels about it? No. Not at all. I think it is the most important game on his and the team's schedules. Especially coming from Navy, which has probably the biggest rivalry game in the country.

I also don't think our bye week is the week before that game because of pure luck.

Navy didn't have ACC-title and BCS Bowl hopes, so I can see CPJ focusing on UGA and ACC equally if he is successful against UGA.

First off, Thanks for the summaries of beej!!!

I think he's been around long enough to not pull a Kiffin. His resume shows he makes betting his rival a primary goal each year. Also I'd prefer my coach not be focused on uga at this point in the year. I'd much rather him be focused on us.

He says he sells our recruits on the idea that choosing a school is a 40 year decision, not a 4 year decision, also sells Atlanta.

(Obvious) Genius.

"Do you ever watch the tape of the Georgia game? High five your assistant coaches?"

"No, we played very poorly in that game. Left a lot on the field on offense, and played probably our worst game of the year on defense."

Brilliant.

"Have you seen our staff? We won't be ripping our shirts off."

:laugher:

Come on guys you know the UGA game matters a lot to PJ. What was the number 1 goal he set for the team last year? The answer is beat UGA. Which we did. Does anyone remember what PJ did when we recovered the fumble against FSU? I do. He acted like it was nothing. But what did he do when we got the 2nd two point conversion against UGA? He was showing a lot of emotion. PJ is just saying the right thing.

I think you are right on point here. No reason to give the Gaggers any bulletin board material.

I think what is also a part of it is the fact that if you're representing a team that plans on winning conference championships and big bowl games the you can't walk around preaching the death of your rival all year. You can keep it close to the chest and constantly believe the main goal is to beat them but I think even if it is just kept unsaid it creates a different mindset.

I know he cares. I guess my response is more why is that the right thing to say? The GT flagship station is interview the head football coach, shouldnt we be able to talk up the program a bit there.

I think the bulletin board material is good point, but I would think you can be higher on your own program without doing that.

Someone can tell me I just misheard and not worry about it, but I was curious if anyone else had a similar reaction.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I make it a point to teach my kids one very simple lesson.

"Win with class, lose with dignity."

We beat them. Richt knows we beat them. The Bulldog Nation knows we beat them. Whether we like it or not, Richt and UGA DO have a pretty decent program going right now. I for one appreciate a coach who is cognizant enough to win with class. I expect you will see his intensity ramp up as we approach Nov. 28, but this is April. I like the fact that I have an example like Paul Johnson to point to for my kids instead of a grown man who thinks that taunting a defeated foe is the better way to conduct himself.

That was the #1 goal the team set for itself.

Thanks for the recaps beej.

Would those of you upset about his ugag remarks have rather him said: "I hate those bastards and look forward to putting them through hell again"?

He said the right things, just as he did last year. The game motivates players all by itself, and I'm sure he adds motivation to it while inside the locker room. No need for it in the press. Besides, he has a point, Richt has built a pretty good program over there. Its just going to have at least one loss every year around Thanksgiving.

Well, one way or another, he's saying the same sorts of things Chan said that really ticked the fanbase off. The salient difference is he's undefeated vs UGA and Chan was goose egged.

That is a good point. He is coming at Ugag from a different perspective than if we had lost again to them last year. I don't have any doubts that CPJ knows and understands the importance that beating Ugag has to the GT fanbase.

If we'd lost to UGA last year, and he answered all those questions the same way, we'd all be real pissed off. (including me)

Goes to show you something about fans, I guess.

I didn't hear him say it, so I don't know how it came across exactly. What I do know is that he is no Chan Gailey on the field and in the locker room, and that's where it matters.

I just thinks he chooses not to battle in the newspapers, and I don't blame him. Do we really want or need a Kiffen around?

People look at him and know he wants to beat ugay. Everyone knows he cares. Chan was different.

I would not be pissed had ugag beat us and he said that. I would be pissed if we lost 7 years in a row and continued to underperform.

We have a winner, Freddy!

Good post!
