What sort of standing or record is this across all of CFB?

He is the fourth Georgia Tech head coach to be enshrined (joining John Heisman, William Alexander and Bobby Dodd), but the first since Dodd in 1993.

That's got to be towards the cream of the crop, no?

I definitely figured he was a Hall of Famer based on his whole body of work. Wasn't sure about First Ballot, but I don't really follow the CFB HOF process. Well deserved.

Not surprised at all. No brainer, imo, with his FCS championships, his amazing record at Navy, and conference championship and Orange Bowl victory at a power 5. Add in his identity as possibly the greatest option coach... easy call.

Well deserved. I very much appreciate the several high points he brought to Tech athletics. He’s responsible for most of my best Tech football memories from this century.

Not really. He was a lock imo. Dude accomplished a lot. National championships; national coach of the year; etc. The way he turned around Navy, was incredible, and probably what gets him in more than anything. His resume is tremendous.
