I was watching the Miami game last night (he fumbled) and I started thinking about all of the bad press he got on the forums last season and then they started talking about him being a true freshman and it made me think about League MVP option QB's like Jayson Foster during his sophmore year. And how he struggled. I think shaw did a really good job with what was around him, I am not saying he should start but I do think that sometimes we need to cut him some slack and we are going to be in really good hands next season.

I think his size is the biggest drawback. Every hit he takes looks like he is getting crushed.

He calls his own number a little too much (in the option, Dingus). Prolly just needs more time. We shall see!

Most (if not all) of Jaybo's criticism came from his tendency to fumble - and fumble often. If he can cut that down by just 50% the criticism will be GREATLY reduced.

Half his fumbles happened while one of the bigger defenders (linebackers or defensive linemen) would land a big hit on him and I think that sort of thing goes together with the size issue.

For a true FR I was impressed by Jaybo. He led us to wins over Miss ST and Duke. IMO Jaybo was a excellent back-up last year. I think Jaybo will always be a back-up though.

Im glad you said that because I really dont see Jaybo being the #1 guy. Yes, he has bulked but he still is not big. He now maybe weigh around 190lb-200lb. Still pretty small to be taking that type of punishment every week. It is going to be real interesting to watch that battle of Shaw, Luallen, and Sims of who is going to be the future of GT football.

He also gets hit hard because he runs so upright. Fixing that might cut down on his fumbles as well. That being said, Jaybo really 'man'ed up for us last year. He came in and sustained that final drive against UGAy.

Was it the final drive? I thought it was during the drive where Roddy scored by diving for the corner, brought us to the tie I think that drive did.

Well the final "Scoring" drive.

You were indeed correct. Jaybo came in when Roddy tight roped the sidelines. I thought it was earlier when Roddy had to dive to catch the corner of the endzone.

This was a common complaint last year. I think sometimes the defense did not fear him as much as JN or the backs and he may have been reading the defensive matchups correctly. It's hard to say without looking at film, but it would not surprise me if the defenses gave him an opening more often rather than free up the pitch. Either way, for a freshman he did a good job of running the option. Fumbles are another story.

Jaybo had a very hard time taking hits last season... I hope that issue will fix itself as he matures. In the Duke game I was just wanting him to last... not to drag ole Reggie into the situation but he as well had some of the same issues... started as a true freshman and turnovers. Reggie had his problems hanging on to the ball sometimes but he never looked "done" as a freshman after getting hit hard. Jaybo looked in the Duke game like he couldnt catch his breath between plays and hits. Jaybo imo got hit hard early in the season and after that looked scared.

I don't remember exactly where it was written, but Jaybo was quoted as saying that the season caused him to become so exhausted that he wasn't able to eat enough food to maintain the weight he started the season at and in fact was 15/20 lbs lighter at the end of the season.

Damn, where in the hell was that diet when I was playing.

I tend to agree; but I also remember Jaybo moving the offense very effectively against Mississippi State last year after Josh went out injured. He moved the offense so well that when I pointed out to a MSU fan I had brought to the game that he was a true Freshman, said MSU fan looked ready to puke. It was great last year to have second string quarterback who could come in and run a series rather than run 3 plays and set up a punt.

Yeah, he got a concussion carrying the ball into the endzone. He did a hell of a job for a freshman, but got a little timid after that hit and really needed a season of conditioning to really prepare him for the college game.
