Hey guys, I know there is already a thread, but another won't hurt.
I am assuming many of us are having the same problems against online opponents so I wanted to give some tips and receive some in return.
I have found that you CANNOT force the option, or running the ball period. People assume that since we use GT, we will be running TO over and over and they will sell out to stop it. Some use contain, pinch tackles, use backside DE, slant, play the run, etc.
So what do you do? You run a formation like tackle over or trips left/right so you can get an a-back slot receiver. Many times, in zone, no one will be over the slot and you can hit the slant or seam route every time. It is a simple hot route and can be accessed through audible (square) and hitting up on the right joystick. You can pass for a zillion yards (like CPJ says lol) out of those formations.
What this does, it doesn't allow them to "play run", "use backside ends", etc. So, what I do, I call an option play. If they have no one over the slot, or if i see him pinching tackles and using backside ends, I audible to a quick slant or seam. If there is someone over the slot and they are selling out on run, they are probably in man and the out route will be 9/10 times. Send the outside receiver deep and slot on the out.
Of course, if they are playing pass, I just run the option.
I am 4-7 so I am no guru, however, I am 3-0 over my last three because I stopped forcing the run. My stat lines have looked like 20 pass att for 200+ yards and 20 run att for 200+ yards. Dwyer loves taking the load option pitch to the house
Also, if they are using linebackers to play the option, they usually play the pitch, cut it up field with nesbitt.
PLEASE add your own experiences.
