You are right; there is no comparison. Bill Lewis, as a head coach, had won 11 of his last 12 games and was named AP Coach of the Year when we hired him. Gene Chizik was 2-10 (riding a ten game losing streak) and had never had a winning season as a head coach when Auburn hired him, and has a HC record of {drumroll please} 5-19. (Yes, that record is given in the traditional "W-L" format.) No comparison whatsoever.
EDIT: Keep in mind please that I am not defending or even remarking on the wisdom of the BL hire. (Who were the top canditates at the time? O'leary wanted that job, right?) My only point is that you can't necessarily tell, based on records, who is going to succeed and who isn't. I admit, and not TIC, that Chizik might have a great run at Auburn. Rich Rodriguez, who had a great W-L record, might have another crap-fest at Michigan. Spurrier had a great record when South Carolina hired him and he's getting ready for another crappy offensively impotent season.
