KC Fires Chan Gailey

the biggest gripe I have is that we extended his contract the year before we fired him

I have no problem with Chan as a person. We were spoiled last year b/c PJ makes it looks fairly effortless to win tough games that Chan could not. Chan did not have that fire-in-the-belly type personality college coaching sometimes demands. Other than five losses a year, he was actually pretty good for the program and I am sure that PJ appreciates the fact Gailey left him Dwyer, Nesbitt, Burnett and Morgan, among others. The Gailey era is over, but let's not forget that Gailey left PJ with more talent than O'Leary left Gailey.

POT, like O'Leary said. Weaklings love to Pile On Top. Its because they rarely make any tackles themselves, its much easier just to hit someone when they are already down

if the posters had a smidgen of the decency of the man they decry, they wouldnt be doing it

irony in action

See Czar, we do have some common ground. :)

I agree with zar, too. Amazing.

This line from the article explains a lot to me...

Gailey was the Chiefs' offensive coordinator last season under former coach Herm Edwards. Haley was the offensive coordinator for the Cardinals during their run to the Super Bowl last season before being hired to replace Edwards.

A new head coach who was an OC before being hired....but the timing is a little strange, though.

Gailey's problem is he doesn't learn. I've never seen someone who cannot evolve at all. His offensive mantra seems to be that mistake free/ conservative football will win 55% of the time.

I don't feel badly for him at all.

This post says it all.

You can Rival that list with

Josh Nesbitt
Roddy Jones
Jonathan Dwyer
Demarius Thomas
Derrick Morgan
Morgan Burnett
Vance Walker
Michael Johnson
Andrew Gardner

I'm not saying he left better talent, just the claim that Oleary left Gailey LESS talent is false.

I've seen many Chans since I've started working. Nice people, but at the end of the day they underperform because they resist doing something new.

Also, GOL's defensive talent was the main contributer to Tenuta's massive success. Not to take anything away from Tenuta, but the past couple of years the defense has fallen off because of Gailey's poor recruiting in his first 3 or 4 years.

Thank you for posting what I was thinking!!!

Go Jackets!

Agreed Bandit. I think the talent is pretty close either way.

except in one important area:

QB for the system they are playing in. O'Leary left Gailey with:
A.J. Suggs
Damarius Bilbo
Brian Camp

none of whom could run a pro offense

Gailey left Paul Johnson with:
Josh Nesbitt

a perfect fit for the TO

i prefer Paul Johnson by a wide margin, but dont understand why people so love to slam Gailey

I had met Chan on a couple of occasions --a couple of county FCA banquets up here in Forsyth. He is a very decent man, but just was not a good college football coach.

I hate that the man has now apparently lost his job with only a couple of weeks remaining in pre-season. That being said, two offensive TD's in three pre-season games just ain't cuttin' it.

Because he lost to U(sic)GA 6 years in a row. It's pretty clear to me why people slam him.

Hell of a nice guy. Unfortunately he semiretired and started coasting sometime in the 1990s.

who slammed OLeary? I met and spoke to the man on a number of occasions and really liked him.

although it was time for him to go when he did, ask around - many can back that up, even Mover, IIRC said the same thing
