The Tough Hard Truth

My fun fact of the night was Miami had 400 yards of offense 4 mins into the 3rd quarter, and we didnt get hands on Harris 1 time. He just sat back and did whatever the hell he wanted.

We'll find out how good Miami really is next week when they face VT. If he has all day like he did against FSU and GT, he'll pick them apart too. Miami realistically could run the table if their O line continues to protect the way they did the first 2 games. Hats off to Miami; our defense looked like deer in headlights.

As for tech, being in a division with those guys doesnt bode well for us. They arent gonna get any worse in the years to come. For all of you calling Randy Shannon and idiot pregame, I hope you've found a cliff and jumped off of it. Sure he was dumb enough to hire Pat Nix, but he was smart enough to fire him too.

This division is in for a world of hurt as long as they keep their coordinators. That team that just beat us is just as young as we are.

1.) When I can see that Tarrant (even said so in both my analysis of the last two games) plays way too soft coverage, that's a damn problem. It was a problem again tonight, and Wommack didn't do **** to fix this since day one. That pisses me off. I have said since last year that Rashad Reid has the best instincts for a CB I have seen at GT since Willie Clay and he's not starting. ****ing Dumb.
Blame no pressure on their QB first.

2.) Welcome to the world of Real Division one football Coach Johnson. 250 pound converted DE's and TE's don't make good Offensive Tackles at this level. Sellers was getting owned this entire game. We need guys who can move that can handle big Dlines. Sellers fails.

3.) Coord Howard rather get his picture taken by someone on the Hive than hit an opponent's skull through his helmet. Soft, slow, and owned.

4.) Jason Peters and Robert Hall.... disappointing is an understatement. Lets see some freshman.

5.) Play some young guys because some of these guys think they got a good thing and no competition. OLine specifically and DLine too.
Do you believe they're blocking as well as they can? If so, then you're right. I don't think they are though. I think they can do better... though I'm not sure why they aren't.

6.) No excuse whatsoever for our team to not figure out how to pressure the QB. What did you prepare these guys for Wommmack?
+1

7.) Undisciplined ball. Penalties kept us out of this game early and left us without a chance. Cone, you broke the cardinal rule of Receivers. When the CB beats you on a block. YOU ****ING NEVER HIT HIM IN THE BACK. You let him go. Way to go for ****ing up a perfectly good TD or at least a 1st down. I haven't played ball in 18 years and I can still remember that rule. Pathetic.
+1

8.) Did I say our offensive line sucks ass? Because they do. Doesn;t matter that we have the best backfield in the country when our lineman couldn't start for any other ACC team. Fact.
Repetitive. Badgering the witness. +1 anyway. If we can't block, we can't win.

9.) No fire from this team in its first three games. Pathetic. No excuse. PJ, time to look in the mirror.
3 games in 12 days. We've known it for a long time, so we should have prepped for it to overcome it, so it is NOT an excuse, but it's a dam hard thing to do.

10.) Nesbitt is still making poor reads. Really can't understand why. Unfortunately, we have no other options at QB.
Agree with JacketDan here. If you can't trust your OL to block, it'll affect your read.

11.) Our Linebackers are not aggressive and now I understand why. We have tried to adopt the Wolf position because our LB's are so used to blitzing pre PJ they have no clue about pass coverage.
We've made way too much out of the dam wolf thing. I knew we should never name anything we do after any member of the canines. We'd do better with Rock, Paper, Blitz.

12.) Kudos to Miami's game plan. Their OC is very very good.
They have a good OC yes, but until Harris shows he can handle a night of zone blitz pressure and still throw for tons, I'm not convinced. I think Foster and vpisu beats thug u.

13.) To Paul Johnson. The rest of the ACC is catching on to your ****. You better figure it out fast and adjust because we're losing more games at this pace.
DISAGREE. No amount of coaching adjustment can account for nobody on your team being able to make a dam block. If we block, we win. This is not a coaching problem... well, not on offense anyway.

14.) The good news is Dwyer will be here next year.
I just hope he's not hurt long term.

Take heart all, we'll rest up and return against the tearholes. If vpisu does beat thug u, and we beat vpisu, then we're right back to the 3 way we had last year. Not the 3 way I'd prefer, but hey...

GO JACKETS!!!

what's dissapointing is i thought the offense was supposed to be light years ahead of last year having had a year's experience under the belt....but, they look worse through the first three games.

and the defense...it's just bad...under jon tenuta we were always respectable on D....this is bad....dave wommack is overmatched....what exactly was so wonderful on his resume anyway? why do you hire a d-coordinator to come to tech who wasn't even currently a d-coordinator where he was at?

I was thinking these exact same things earlier this week.
We knew D would take a hit but I didn't realize we would be look completely inept.

And something strange happened on O. It's gotta be poor blocking. I miss cox and jones as our main A backs. Their down field blocking was pretty good. Aa isn't doing any good things when be doesn't have the ball.

What I don't understand is everyone on here keeps bitching about the offense and the production before tonight.

NO ONE HAS SAID **** ABOUT THE DEFENSE!

Tonight set us back a full year.

Just for the record, I've been worrying about our defense since last year, and a whole lot of folks were blasting GTKyle about wanting Tenuta back.

Terrible game but it is an early season loss that will be forgotten after we spank UNC. You can come back Yukon and all the naysayers and say I was wrong but we will spank them.

As bad as our offensive players block, we were moving the ball. This game was not lost by the offense - it was lost by the defense. Had they forced more than one punt, our offense would've put a few more tds on the board.

That being said, everybody missed blocks. The OL sucks. The A-backs suck at blocking. Nobody is doing what they are supposed to. It isn't the offensive system - its the execution. And it isn't getting better from week to week.

This one is easy Mover. Everyone knew our DL would be suspect, well the suspicion is over. The defensive production is a disappointment but not a shock.

Everyone was optomistic because our Offense would be averaging 400+ yards and 40+ points a game. Well, we had one offensive touchdown against Clemson, and now two offensive touchdowns against Miami (and one of those was basically in garbage time). So for the last two games we have gotten Pat Nix type production out of the offense (Reggie Ball type passing stats without the Tashard Choice type running consistency).

By the way, what's your old pal Teddy Roof up to these days?

thru my eyes i saw allen wiff about 6 blocks tonite. he missed alot last week too.

Lucas Cox needs to play more. He is the only person on the field who can block.

Marcus Wright knows how to block.

Anthony Allen doesn't.

Another thing that was really annoying is that ALL our pass completions were to ONE guy. Our pass plays are ridiculously telegraphed.

But let's acknowledge another bright spot: kickoff returns. We finally have a kickoff returner AND a punt returner.

But yeah, our offensive and defensive lines are, as we suspected all summer, not ready for prime time.

Another thing that at least I have been preaching all summer is that this year is not our year. Next year is.

We'll have a good year. We need rest. There's not a remaining game we can't win. So chill people, the season is not over.

This is the only thing in your post that is incorrect. If we can't block, there isn't anything CPJ can do about it. These guys on the OL couldn't block in a pro-style offense either.

The season is not over, true. But we have some serious weaknesses.

I can not believe that Fridgemover got it through the grapevine that our OL blocking was so improved. Watch the execution, we are very poor. (At the end, we took our LT away from blocking the DE because Cox could handle him better!)

Our DL is okay. Just because we don't get pressure doesn't mean they aren't okay. Most schools today have to blitz or disguise the pressure. We aren't doing a good job at all of that.

We got manhandled, but the scary thing is how poorly we blocked all night. Allen has no business in a PJ offense. I can't believe PJ has slipped to allow complete non blocking by A backs.

Yes, bring back Cox. Put Allen at B Back, because we are paper thin there now and because he will not block at A back. Hello Mr. Drummond.

It amazes me to think that the only junior leaving early is very likely a WR, Thomas!

The defensive performance (obviously lack of) reminded me of the Roof years. DBs play 10 yds off the WR, LBers sitting in space waiting as opposed to attacking, and the D-line was simply non existent. This was a complete storm of breakdowns from D-line to secondary to Wommack.

Tarrant is completely lost on the field. #2 is not much better. It seems like all the WR or TE were wide open the entire game. Harris was roasting marshmellows in the pocket as he went from primary to tertiary WRs each play. Who would have ever guessed Burnett would not have a single tackle by the 4th quarter. This game was lost with Wommack schemes and lack of game time adjustments.

PJ has to re-group because the lean and underweight guards are getting manhandled. Can not block the D-tackles and D-ends are staying at home = repeat of LSU and Miami losses.

The bottom line is Miami has the athletes.

Tenuta sucked too. He may have blitzed all night long, but I have a feeling this would have been one of those Matt Ryan nights where Miami prepped for picking up the blitz.

the only reason the O looked good preseason is because they were playing against wommack's ****ty D.

Maybe you're right, but the defensive plan of:

1) don't blitz;
2) give a 15 yard cushion; and,
3) don't tackle

isn't worth a damn.

Tenuta got burned once or twice a year. Wommack has been burned 3 out of the last 4 games. I'm not saying we need Tenuta back - I'm just saying Wommack doesn't have the answer. And, if given the choice, I'll take my chances with Tenuta over Wommack.

Well at least it was planned. I was worried we came unprepared.

I never thought I'd be like a UGAg fan and get really angry at out DC, but damn.
