Most of the conversation (pointless IMO) about what Tenuta would or wouldn't have done neglects a basic fact. Tenuta didn't want to be here.
Tenuta wanted to be head coach but he did not want to stay as DC. His choice.
Now, I was a Tenuta defender when he was here. There are too many folks here with simple answers to problems, "All you gotta do is..." It seems to never occur to those people that we have to work with the talent available and scheme to cover weakness in one area with strength in another.
So, Tenuta had a philosophy that he would rather die a quick death than allow an offense to stay on the field. Others prefer to play defense "defensively" and wait for the offense to make mistakes. Both approaches have strengths and weaknesses.
So, I think we would do okay with Tenuta, but he wouldn't be the magic answer to defensive problems either. But since he ain't coming back, it is pointless to keep bringing him up.
Tenuta, like Friedgen, left by his own choice. I appreciate the contributions they made while at GT. But their performance elsewhere since leaving doesn't indicate that having them around would be a magic answer to our problems.
Let's stop the comparisons and stick to dealing with the present.
