Man...this guy has fallen a long way. I know Clemson fans were salivating when he said he was going to CU. That would be a huge blow to CU nation if they can't get a good season with Dabo (whom they probably shouldn't have given a shot considering the mess of their program) and then they lose a top talent....

Willy Korn said Monday he is frustrated with his role as Clemson's backup quarterback, and his future with the Tigers appears uncertain.

Looks like the real story here is Dabo. From the same article:

"It's something coach Swinney said to my face," said Korn, of Swinney's pledge to play him every game. "He said: 'I guarantee you are going to be playing in every single game. Just because (Parker) is starting doesn't mean it is end of the world. Just because he is starting the first game doesn't mean he'll start the last.'
"I guess the circumstances (at Georgia Tech and Saturday vs. TCU) didn't merit me getting any playing time."

Korn did not play a single snap in either the Georgia Tech or TCU game. So what is Dabo's word worth? And why would he make that promise?

Not only that, but now that it's out that he doesn't keep his promises (after less than 1 year!!), I wonder how that will affect his recruiting.

"Sure Jimmy, you'll play every game. I promise!"

Wait, a coach at a major football school made a promise to a Student-Athlete that he didn't keep? Unimaginable!

Korn should just transfer if he can. He doesn't seem like a team player, and he never looked that good.

Korn might be a brat, but that doesn't make it right for the head coach to lie to him. I guess he could just be making that up about Dabo. Either way, it doesn't look good for the program.

I wonder what Paul Johnson would do if his backup QB told the press that PJ was a liar?

Probably very impolitely tell him he can play somewhere else.

I had a coach do this to me before in the past. I realized he was leading me on because the other kid's parents were buddy buddy with him. Good thing he was fired. The season after he was fired, I started.

Bobby Cremins frequently had superior players on the bench not getting playing time---the reason? He had given his word to other players when they were recruited that certain parameters would be met. He made a value judgement that it was important to the overall long term success of the program to maintain his credibility with present and future players and recruits. I can't imagine how Dabo squares this with Korn or the other athletes on the team, for that matter---if it is how Korn is reporting it.

I guess Dabo should have said, "You can expect some playing time in everygame, unless you end half of the drives you QB with turnovers."

Moving down a level doesn't guarentee playing time. Those FCS schools have some talented players too.

That ain't right cause everyone knows Bobby never had a bench :fingersx::laugher:

In reality if you said he never recruited over a kid after giving his word then I am right there with you. But I don't recall a lot of superior players on the bench as Bobby never went more than about 7 deep anyway.

I've never known PJ to promise a kid PT. At Southern, they recruited a ton of QBs and they were told they would get a chance to compete for quarterback — but if they didn't make that cut, they likely would get on the field somewhere, either at slot, wideout or DB. One of Southern's best receivers ever was a record-setting passing QB at Americus, Chris Johnson.
Sounds like Dabo sold Korn a bill of goods and when he realized Parker was better than Korn, he had no out with Korn.

PJ has a strict "no promises" policy. If we offer you and you accept, you'll get a scholly and that's all we can guarantee.

Which is the way it should be. Coaches who promise things either lie or will not maximize the use of the team's talent.

Paul Johnson told almost each of the players that he can't guarantee them playing time, and that they were going to have to earn it. Look at the interviews of the recruits and current players. They said that it was something that they liked about CPJ and Georgia Tech, because all the other schools' coaches would show them their stadium and guarantee them playing time if they joined...

This is what happens when a kid has been told he's great his entire life and then the reality of big time ball smacks him in the face. Korn has looked like crap anytime he has gotten in a game, yet he somehow believes he should still see the field.

Korn had better pack his bags. He ain't playing unless that starter gets hurt.

Basically, Dabo hooked Korn for a year. If he transfers now he loses this and next. Clemson loses its backup QB. Lose, Lose situation.

+1

I'd like some examples of those superior players on the bench. I don't EVER recall wondering why Bobby didn't start a different player. And I don't ever recall a star freshman that didn't start. The fact of the thin bench helped recruit those guys who indeed might have ridden the pine at UNC or Duke.

I hope Korn stays at Clemson to take up a scholarship spot. Of course if he transferred to UGAg he'd be ...

A KORN DOG!
