'Bout time for Virginia to start playing

Why do people keep saying that they hope Duke beats VT? How do people still not understand what needs to happen for us to win the coastal?

If we win out and Duke beats VT like you guys want, they'll be 6-2, and GT and Miami will be 7-1. Guess what happens.

True --and I want VT in the top 5 when GT plays them.

Yeah, they don't consider the your non-conference record, until it gets to #7, the BCS standings, which naturally would take into account the whole thing, not just the ACC. Non-divisional is versus Atlantic teams. So if we're all 7-1, then that is negated as well. IF we all finish 7-1 conference, then it will end up at the BCS tiebreaker.

You're assuming that those of us cheering for Duke to beat VPI are not also going to cheer for the Clemson, UNC et al to beat Miami as well.

I'll cheer for those teams when it's time. Miami has OOC game this week though, hence why I'm cheering for Duke this week.

I'm going for Duke because it'll be the upset of the century, not because it will help us in any way... can you imagine DUKE being ranked?? hahahaha

That's assuming Miami wins out. I think they have a legitimate chance to do so with the competition they face, but forgive me if I'm not ready to concede that they will do so because they played like champs for two games.

We need someone to beat Miami, not VPI. We control our own destiny against VPI. We beat them, we own the tie-break, we don't get a situation like last year. We need someone to step up and beat Miami, or we need to hope that we can get a three-way log jam in the Coastal standings, and force the third tie-break system.

I'm hanging my hat on Clemson beating Miami - Clemson has the defensive line that can pressure Harris into mistakes and they have enough athletes on offense/special teams to match up with Miami.

UNC is another option - they play in Chapel Hill (if i'm not mistaken) and UNC has given Miami fits since they've joined the ACC. They'll have to really shut down Miami because I don't see them scoring too many points on anyone this year.

Huh?

How does that work, all three of those teams would have a 4-1 divisional record, so how does Miami win in a three way tie in that tiebreaker?

Especially considering that Miami and GT play the same 3 Atlantic division teams (Clem, F$U and Wake)

I understand why we'd need VT to create a 3-way tie if us and Miami were 7-1, but I think it's more likely to help us than hurt us for VT to lose to Duke. If I had to guess our final conference record at this point, I would guess 6-2, and that's being optimistic. We'll probably need Va Tech to lose to somebody else, and other than our game, their remaining conference schedule is pretty easy. (@Maryland, @UVA, @Duke, BC, NCSt, UNC).

Reading the tie-break scheme, I think that non-divisional replies to Atlantic Division teams, not OOC teams. I was wrong in how far down the list the BCS is, but if we all finish 7-1, it will come up.

I think Clemson has a chance of beating Miami. UNC has an outside chance, but I don't think they're good enough. Still, this is all dependent on us winning out.

I'm hoping Duke can pull the upset against VT more than UVA over UNC...

I mean, they've got home-field advantage...

I bet it's 3/4 orange on Saturday...

Damn, can they push the fans any farther away from the field in that stadium? That's a horrible design!

I don't think Duke's field is that bad. There's something to be said for old-school. Duke isn't going to be selling that place out on a regular basis any time soon, so why bother getting a fancy million dollar stadium?

Plus they seem to do pretty well for themselves with that old-school basketball gym. If Duke actually gets somewhat decent for a period of time, I could see that field being a unique characteristic for them in a positive way, kind of like Boise State's blue turf.

I like how their students paint themselves bleacher seat gray for the games.

All seriousness set aside, I do like their stadium. I'll be there November 14 (is that right)? I'm assuming that I can buy a ticket when I get down there and sit where I want---am I right?
