Do you stay pat at 10 or add BYU and TCU? I don't understand not adding BYU and TCU at this point.

And the answer to your question is no. I'm not done discussing expansion.

I look at it like this... as long as the Big 12-2 stays at 10 teams, the looming threat of 16 team super conferences still exist.

If BYU and TCU would be willing to join, the only reason for the Big 12 to keep them out is to protect Texas' and Oklahoma's rep. Texas and OU wouldn't seem as dominant if TCU and BYU were added to the mix.

One thing to think of is that the Big 12 does not want a championship game. Right now at 10 teams they can adopt the Pac 10's old 9 conference game round robin to determine the winner. If they go to 12 without a championship then it gets weird...

But wouldn't that suck for BSU if Utah, BYU, and TCU all bail on them right after being invited? They would find themselves in another WAC!

UT and OU want the same advantage tOSU had in previous years, no championship game. It's somewhat less money, but one less difficult game makes the road to the MNC much easier.

BYU and TCU would also bring revenue less than the average of the current Big 12-2. They will just dilute the money Texas brings in to the conference.

Right, most of the Big XII schools didn't want the championship game in the first place. I think they'll stay at 10 unless they can add a major school, which I don't think they can.

The big hitters aren't worried about the threat of 16 team superconferences, because for those to happen they'll need to move. Kansas, Kansas State, etc. should be terrified, but there's really not much they can do.

Also, just to show how much UT and OU rule the conference now, the five leftovers, Baylor, Missouri, Kansas, KSU and ISU, gave their portion of Nebraska and Colorado's buyout to UT and OU.

I have to say it must be nice being Texas, royally screwing your fellow conference teams and having them be happy about it.

How much is the B12 championship game worth? I would imagine quite a bit. And I don't think OU or UT are worried about losing that game. It may happen, but it's not a real big concern.

Going to a 9 game league schedule would also cost OU, TAMU, and UT money. Why give up an extra home game every other year? I think just about any two teams would fit and bring enough money to the table to cover their cost (because you get the championship game). BYU is a good choice because it expands the market. I'd pick Tulane before I added TCU though.

BYU doesn't dilute anything, they give you the entire state of Utah!

TCU, I agree with. So maybe they take Colorado St. and really piss off the Buffs for leaving!!

That's exactly what I would do. Go head to head with the PAC-10 for Colorado and Utah. Makes a lot of sense.

And by that, you must mean Texas. Texas wanted a small conference with no title game. And what Texas wants, Texas apparently gets.

What about TCU and Tulsa/Rice/Houston/Memphis? I think TCU is a natural fit. As are any of the others.

I like TCU being big 12. Brings a former SWC member
to the fold. I'd really like to see BYU and Utah be
in the same conference.

I think Arkansas would fit more naturally in the
Big 12 than they do the SEC. Houston is another
former SWC member who would be a nice addition
to the Big 12. They could be big time again if they
were in a BCS conference, IMO.

Texas just spent a lot of time and effort getting the conference easier to win and removing their championship game. There's no way Texas is going to allow them to expand again.

And if they're forced to, they can just jump to the PAC 10 or SEC. Texas really has the Big XII by the balls here.

If Big 12 loses Colorado and Nebraska to add TCU-BYU or Houston and promises big share of money to Texas and OU, it is hard to see how they improved themselves.

I think they stand pat for now, and over the next year they will cultivate conversation with their absolutely best potential targets - Arkansas and LSU. The four Texas schools in a Southern Division with those two, with the Oklahoma schools headed to the North would mean an ultimate improvement for the Big 12. Now, do Arkansas and LSU want to go? No. But, money talks. The Big 12 can decide whether it wants to be a player.

Frankly, I wish our conference could lose VPI and BC and end up in the same situation, no championship game, full round-robin.

Divisional play sucks, not playing FSU and others annually sucks, Hokies suck, and our championship game has been nothing short of an embarassment to the league.

I agree. Plus it sucks for basketball.

I can understand BC but why VPI? I really like the rivalry we are building with them.
