Last Day of Paul Johnson as our coach

If you'd told me when CPJ got hired that in the next 11 years we'd win 3 COFHs, go to two Orange Bowls & win one, get 3 wins over FSU, and have a very clean program, I'd have been ecstatic.
So why did I greet his retirement announcement with a bit of relief? It's not that I don't appreciate his work, it's just that unless a program has spectacular success, a football HC has a shelf life, and I think Paul had reached his.

It reflects well on him that CPJ knew when to get out, just as his team's best results do. So, many thanks to Paul Johnson for his work at GT. In many ways he gets what we're about: smart, tough, and willing to compete at any level.

Yes, very nice. I hope today is all about rainbows, and kittens, and unicorns wearing Navy blue. :dunno:

Really well said. You articulated my thoughts, so I will just second this.

I wonder what it feels like knowing you have that one last game to coach. I think my favorite memories will be the two FSU miracle victories - since for years we couldn't get a win off of them. The blocked kick and six was just bedlam in our section

Good luck in retirement CPJ!

Might as well throw in the '09 win vs. FSU as well.

My favorite CPJ moments I got to see live:

FSU 2008 - first win since the mid-70s
VT 2009 - I was underneath the goalposts when they came down
Clemson 2009 - the trick special teams play to Thomas for a touchdown and the almost Clemson comeback
Clemson 2011 - toppling top 5 Clemson
FSU 2015 - Austin entered the end zone right in front of our seats and I stormed the field with my brother
Orange Bowl 2014 - so good to get the win after traveling for the 2009 game against Iowa. Set an OB record for rushing.

I'm glad he's gone so we can get back to preparing guys for the NFL and a steady diet of 7-5. We'll have lowered expectations that the new coaches still struggle to meet. Pass the ball and pass on paul. Kirby is the wave of the future.- Me, summarizing all of you people on stingtalk the past few years.

Big cry me. I'm right and you know it. You're going to get what you deserve.

There are only a small group of people that fit that bill. They just did an impressive job douching up almost every thread.

Please don’t use the acronym TPR...even in ironic indignation.
I pretty much think that should be a ban if you are placing Coach Johnson in the same breath with Bill Lewis. Coach Johnson has been good for GT. I hope he someday comes back and gets honored. I remember the first game seeing our offense and being so confused. It was like the hidden ball trick as I continued to watch the BBack as if he had the ball on every play.
Dwyer was a freakin' monster that year. He still has the absolute best HS film I have yet to see.

This post makes me want to cry. A real man can cry at football, btw

Finally a game where every GT fan can cheer in unison for GT, even the ones that want the coach fired!
