The real reason you like him is because the other P5 FB Program in the State was never competing head-to-head with your beloved Mutts for the State's elite Recruits

So why did I greet his retirement announcement with a bit of relief? It's not that I don't appreciate his work, it's just that unless a program has spectacular success, a football HC has a shelf life, and I think Paul had reached his.

It reflects well on him that CPJ knew when to get out, just as his team's best results do. So, many thanks to Paul Johnson for his work at GT. In many ways he gets what we're about: smart, tough, and willing to compete at any level.

I am in total agreement. I am a sad Yellow Jacket today as I knew we had a shot every game with Johnson. Tomorrow I’ll wake up ready for the future but it’s going to be tough to fill those shoes.

Hire him? I hated playing him. However, he is clearly an highly intelligent and dangerous coach as well as one of the best personalities in sports. Hell, there a lot of great coaches out there I'd hate to have on my sideline (Harbaugh, Meyer, That dirtbag Pitrino) whom I acknowledge as incredible. That option would be a hard thing to get motivated for on a Saturday, but it's a great weapon and tough to prepare for.

A better description of the option is that it’s a weapon that is sharp on both sides. It wins some games it shouldn’t and will occasionally bludgeon someone. The other side is sharp in that it seems to cause a talent depletion over time and is also prone to a complete disaster game at least once a season.
 
I wish he wasn't retiring. He's a great man, and he was a great coach for Tech. It remains to be seen if anybody can do as good as he did, much less better. Just like it remains to be seen if we'll ever get another Bobby Cremins in basketball. But, since Coach Johnson did decide to leave, I'm pulling hard for Coach Collins.

I remember the first game seeing our offense and being so confused. It was like the hidden ball trick as I continued to watch the BBack as if he had the ball on every play.
Dwyer was a freakin' monster that year. He still has the absolute best HS film I have yet to see.
