Future Games at MBS

Paul Johnson will be the last GT coach to beat Clemson in BDS. Big name schools are going to take this and run with it. I cannot believe we just gave away TWO home games with ND.
Boo f'n hoo. Oh no we have to play a game every year five minutes from campus in a Super Bowl/College Football Playoff venue.

They do give up a home game every other year to play UF in Jax. They have had six home games a few years in a row now. They play UVA in MBS in 2019.
Those are both neutral site games, which I am fine with.

I hope not.....the game for 2020 and 2024 is set with ND. That means we will play Clemson in BDS in both 2020 and 2024. Also...important to note the one outlier in these 5 games is the 2022 game is a Chick Fil A kickoff game......tickets will be evenly distributed just like the TN game. It really isn't a home game.

I enjoyed tailgating downtown for the Tennessee game. I think it's a cool unique experience for one game a season.

If it also brings extra cash and visibility for the program, then I think it's a good idea.

In principle, I agree. I'm just not a fan of the fact that it's going to be 13 years before the next time we have a chance to play Notre Dame in Bobby Dodd. My memory gets a little hazy for gameday reasons, but that 2006 game atmosphere was awesome. Some other top atmospheres were Clemson in 2011 and Virgina Tech in 2009 (and Virginia Tech seems like a prime candidate for the TBD years at MBS). We still get Georgia in BDS, but it's just kind of a bummer that we'll lose those other potentials for great memories in our stadium. It is what it is though.

I just hope that we have some stipulations in the contract about decking out the stadium in GT colors/logos/field paint for the home games there.

It was explicitly stated that all of the games (2022 included) will be treated as home games for GT with tickets distributed to GT Season Ticket holder first and Visitors given a typical visitor ticket allotment.

This is where I am. Tech fans are damn near impossible to please.

"this is TERRIBLE"...lol

That had everything to do with them being #2 in the country. We still have teams on our schedule who can be that high when we play them AT HOME.

I love this. Brilliant by TStan. Excellent for branding, recruiting, exposure.

I would have liked to see us play only once against ND, but other than that, perfect.

I think we went 25 years without playing them from 81 to 2006. I prefer BDS as well but I am 47. My teenage sons don’t have the warm fuzzies for the urinals at GT, concession stand food, etc. Times change and I change with the times. And the AA needs the extra $15-$20 million.

Listen to the interview with TStan afterwards. He pointed out the fact that the 2022 game is a Chick Fil A game and it would not be a Tech home game in terms of tickets

My apologies. This is a big misstep for TStan and CGC. Happy now?

Still dumb, especially without knowing how much say CGC had in the decision, or even how far along the negotiations were when he was hired. You really think he's supposed to tell his boss that we should forfeit an opportunity to help ourselves out of a difficult financial situation while also increasing exposure?

I understand why you don’t like it. CGC has nothing to do with it, though. However, you are about to see KY creek water become Blanton’s 15 reserved. The dude can sell some !$-&! Recruits are going to eat this crap up.

But we also weren't under the impression that we'd be having two games with them at BDS during that time that then ended up getting rescheduled to play elsewhere (or maybe that did happen, I was too young to know or care for most of that time period).

I mean, I get the reasoning. I'm not going to boycott or throw a hissy fit or anything. And I'll likely still be attending and enjoying myself. It still bums me a out a bit though to move two home games with Notre Dame.

Ok.

So.

If it's the next 2 ND games, then that means we are giving up a home game vs ND but they are are also giving up a home game.

This is fine.

If the Clemson game is the CFA kickoff classic, then that's a little weird, but if we don't lose a game then ok.

So the question is whether the other 2 dates on the schedule are both we AND the opponent giving up a home date.

If you are the head man, you don't even have to think twice what Tech fans will say / think / feel. You know they are going to complain. But, if it helps the long term health of the program (which I think this does) then you do what is right.

I don't get why trading a home game with 30-40% away fans for a neutral site game 1 mile away, on national TV, in a great venue that will be 50% away fans is even an issue.

The Tennessee game was fun. I wonder if any of the complainers actually attended it.
