Going into this season I think the expectation for us was to be 1-1 against bulldogs at the end of the season. I desperately hope that to be case.
My question is if a genie told you before the season started that he could guarantee a 1-1 record against bulldogs and you pick the win and loss or leave it up to fate with the hope of 2-0 or potential of 0-2, would you take the guarantee? Would you take the loss against Citadel to guarantee a win against the gaggers?
I’m taking 1-1 with a win against gaggers every time.
I would be willing to lose to everybody else we play in exchange for beating Georgia.
If we went 1-11 every season for all eternity but beat Georgia every year, I would be ecstatic.
Losing to a 0-11 team hurts them a lot more than losing to an 11-0 team.
Of course, the ultimate would be to go into that game with both Tech and Georgia 11-0 every year and beat them on the last play of the game every single game.
Tech cannot have a great season without beating Georgia, and Tech cannot beat Georgia without having a great season.
That’s what’s so great about that game. Because of it, we still have a chance to have a great season this year. I mean, we beat Miami, Miami would have a chance to beat South Carolina, and South Carolina beat Georgia. So, we could beat Georgia this year and eliminate their chance to be national champions, even if they win the mighty SEC.
As Ralph Kramden said to Ed Norton, all the other games are “just a bag of shells, a mere bag of shells.”
