10-31-18 CPJ Presser

The obvious point is obvious. He answered a direct question directly.

Bringing the wr in tight is simply another alignment. For example, when we run the triple from that set it changes the angles but does not necessarily change assignments, though it might.

However, when we run the Zone Option the WR blocks down on the Bgap iiuc. So, we need the tight set for that play.

Still, you can't equate bringing the WR in tight with that play. So, unless you want CPJ to explain the role of the WR on every play, his answer was the simplest.

You really don't believe this do you? Do you really think opposing DCs don't understand what PJ was trying to accomplish? These guys are long time professionals, making hundreds and sometime millions of dollars, watching and breaking game film down daily. Pretty sure they're not depending on how well PJ provides a response regarding formation.
Yes, of course I believe there is a blue print out there. It’s been shared here a few times, but those posts have been deleted.

Seems like we run that tight set more often against VT than other teams lately. I think both our long TD passes (and a few long incompletions) in 2017 against them were out of that tight set.

That's why he can't tell Ken. The AJC is still in print media, and once the papers go out, there's no deleting the comments like you can on the internet, where nothing is forever.

You mean like the highly regarded, long tenured VPISU defensive coordinator who couldn't figure out an adjustment last week?

I could care a less how he treats the media. The media is largely a joke. But. I do get he has to be a good rep for gt and sometimes being a tad more polished when answering could make him a tad less edgy. But for me. All of this is item 1000 on a list that only contains 10 concerns.

So we are in a tough market, with tons of entertainment $ competition, with losing records 2 of last 3 seasons - and some think it is better to make enemies of the media rather than try to gain allies?

Typical GT brilliance on display. All for the ego of one man rather than what is best for the program.

You're definitely right. I'm sure if PJ would have been more descriptive in his responses to media questions throughout the season we wouldn't have scored. That's exactly what Foster needed to figure us out. I bet the 2-7 Old Dominion coach must be as elusive as PJ because he was able to put up over 600 yards on VT.

When CPJ - or any future GT coach - can rely on having equal athletes on the field rather than scheme or misdirection, then maybe the coach can give deeper details to the press. Otherwise screw them.

What is the big deal? Being secretive is nothing unusual. Some coaches have GAs hold up sheets during games to keep lip readers at bay. It is not like Ken or Kelly is gonna help CPJ keep his job and neither has enough sway with public or the GTAA to hasten CPJ's demise.

Bottom line, if anyone is gonna hate on CPJ, please choose a more worthy fault of his than how he acts with reporters.

CPJ straight up doesn't like Ken Sugiura. I remember there being a reason, but I can't recall why. I don't understand why the AJC doesn't put somebody else on covering GT, unless they like getting non-answers and snarky remarks when Ken asks questions.

Ken was going around PJ to get injury information is what I believed what happened.
Ken does a good job covering Tech. He's not there to weigh in with an opinion - that's the domain of Bradley (and Schultz) and Cunningham (who sucks at it, and that's saying something when you've got Bradley as your standard).

PJ has cooperated with Ken on various other stories, so while their relationship may not be great (I don't know the status and won't hazard a guess), PJ also understands Ken has a job to do.

There's a lot we don't get to see with how PJ interacts with the media. Off the record and away from the cameras and microphones, at least before he came to Tech, he was great with the media, joked around with them a lot, showed them the sense of humor he has. I've seen it.
My favorite is this story after a Georgia Southern game, one they won, but the other blocked a punt. PJ got asked, in the post game press gaggle, "what happened on the blocked punt?

PJ: "We just fuckin' turned a guy loose."

I hear he's a hoot on his golf cart w/ media and boosters. I'd wish he'd coach the qbs more. When he says he is going to get more involved, that position or group production skyrockets in the next game.

Paul Johnson once complained to a waitress at the Waffle House that his waffle was under cooked, his eggs were runny, and his bacon was not as crispy as he liked it. The waitress looked him dead in the eye and said, "Coach, it's never as good or as bad as it seems."

Scheme first. School second.
