Wouldn't this pretty much assure the ACC of one spot and somewhat save the conference? It's 6 top ranked conference champs and 6 at-large.

ACC's problem is the TV money. Having the winner go to the playoffs is not going to influence that by much.

According to my data 2021 would have been

1 Bama -cc
2 Michigan -cc
3 UGA
4 Cinci -cc
5 ND
6 The Ohio St
7 Baylor -cc
8 Ole Miss
9 Okie St
10 Mich St
11 Utah -cc
12 Pitt -cc

Going to 20plus by 2032. Once the money comes rolling in from the 12 team version we’ll be seeing these same headlines by 2029 or 2030 except it will be about doubling the number. I‘m looking forward to the day GT hosts a playoff game in Bobby Dodd.

True - but does help assure some relevance since would likely at least get 1 spot

2014 Tech would have done very well in a week by week playoff. I’ve said it before. That being said times have changed and I’m not sure you could put that kind of team together in the time of NIL and the transfer portal.

I hear you on NIL and portal but I believe it could be done with a good coach. NIL and portal are excuses and there is an argument that given corporate money in ATL that NIL should be able to help us. I think the bigger ptoblem now is not NIL and portal but recruiting money being spent now by the big dogs and a belief that big dogs help NFL chances for players. In 2014 I don't believe the recruiting efforts ad money spent were as formidable as now but I still think we could make top 12 if Pitt can. They have a decent coach right now and it shows.

Using a the 12 team format and ranking after the UGA game or ACCCG, the GT teams of 1990,1998 2009, and 2014 would have made the playoffs since 1990. A 20+ team would have also included the 1999, 2000, 2008.

Not the way it will work according to reports..top 4 ranked conference champs get the first four seeds and the bye from the first round.....Mutts would have been fifth

Expanding playoff isn't going to make college football a good product again, this just means there will be more Bama-Cincy playoff games.
I'm surprised people get so excited by this. The playoff viewership is decreasing each year so I'm also surprised there will be more TV money for this.

Three neutral site games in a row is a big ask for fans. I think you're going to see very reasonable ticket prices to some of these quarterfinal games unless they somehow manage to get them all very close to one of the teams.

I’d prefer more Bama Cincy playoffs

I think this helps. The problem with the current format is a lot of regions and conferences were consistently left out, now they have a chance. It was boring watching the same teams and nobody else every year. Also the selection committee and polls were notoriously bias for a few teams. Will probably still be bias but if you win your conference you will be given a chance. Top 6 conferences also means a non power 5 conference will be included every year, which is good. Eight teams with 2 at large may have been enough but this is the next best thing. Will be interesting to see what it does to conference championship games for top ranked teams, but at least there will be the incentive of creating a bye for the winner . Without that incentive they would be nothing but exhibition games for the Bama's of the world.

I think 12 is overkill. I would of been happy with 8. Now we will 3, 4 or 5 SEC schools, each year.

sneaky: Notre Dame or any other independents will never have opportunity at 1st round BYE because they don't play a conference champ game.

I think this will, ultimately, force Notre Dame to join a conference. The question is, would they pick the ACC over the BIG10? If they want overall sports, the ACC is a good choice. If based on football, alone, they may go the other way.

This brings more fairness to a corrupt system. No longer will the 4 team playoff be a private club bought and paid for by the elites. The Boises, GT’s, and others who find lightening once a decade will now have a seat at the table. And once it doubles, it will really be fun watching the”outsiders” show how corrupt it’s all been for decades. Sure, Bama and UGA will win their share just like Duke, UNC, and Kansas do in hoops. But it won’t happen every year no matter how many times some of you say it will. You gonna tell me that any team would have been happy to play Boise under Peterson or GT under Johnson with 5 days prep? You saw how Miss State did with weeks to prepare.

I’m pretty sure they will make the playoffs now with 2 or 3 losses. Along with 4 or 5 SEC/BIG teams.
