12 team playoff

I am both sad and happy about this.

Sad, because the Rose Bowl is an awesome tradition and the time/date are a huge part of that. And happy, because that tradition was screwing up the playoff that is the new reality -- plus the playoff had already diminished it.

If I was CFB dictator we'd still have a 4 team playoff, the semifinals would be in mid-December, and the national championship game would be the Rose Bowl every single year. I say that knowing that it's a stupid and unrealistic idea -- but when did that ever stop a dictator from doing what he wanted?

Which team played 16 games in a season?

12 regular season + 1 conf championship + 2 playoff games == 15, right?

Anyone else react to that thought with "man, teams who get into the playoff without playing for the conference title could be happy"?

Guess that would kind of be true now though too, just less likely.

Finally got to go to the parade and game in 2017.
An awesome experience (and bucket list item) that likely won't be available again in the future.
Too bad. Not many good traditions left.

any better to win the playoff without winning your conference? That's pretty bad.

I mean there's been a gaggle of those already. This would be winning the playoff without playing for a conference title.

College football is continually making short-term changes to increase revenue and destroying itself in the long term

Add more bowls => more $$$ now => Bowls lose meaning
Add more playoff games => more $$$ now => Playoff games and bowls lose meaning
