12 team playoff

Well, if you don’t like 12 just wait another 8-10 years when it goes to 24 with the top 8 getting a bye. The conferences will figure out fairly quickly to get rid of the conference championship games and anoint their champ by regular season standings. Of course you’ll have draftable players sitting out the playoffs as they should since the games are just a way to line the conference pockets and not theirs.

And I’ll never understand you really old guys who hold the old days in such high esteem. You were being manipulated like cattle being led to a trough. The Bowl system is one of the most corrupt institutions in this country. You had bowl invitations being bought and sold in September and you had media entities being paid or being strong armed to vote the “right” way for National Champions. You really believe if the sports editor for the Indianapolis Star voted for Alabama over Michigan as the Natty in 1952 that he’d still have a job on Monday? Or if the editor of the Mobile Press voted Penn State over Bama? His house would have been fire bombed.

The expanded playoffs is the only way to ensure a true champ due to difference in competition. A lot of teams could easily be undefeated if they played TCU’s or Michigan or USC or Ohio States schedules. Georgia is about to have a cake walk to another Natty since weak conferences produced weak playoff teams and the committee will reward that garbage.

I don't hold the old days way of selecting a MNC any higher than the way it is done now. They are equally corrupt.

What I do not like about the current methodology is that at the base of it, it is still a beauty contest with no set selection criteria. All while selling us on the idea that this is not a beauty contest. This year it isn't even the most "beautiful"; OSU is In after getting crushed by Michigan last week, which is ridiculous.

I do appreciate that E$PN has tied some games to their invitational tournament. At least it is somewhat more entertaining than the old ways.

Having conferences championship games that are not knock out games is also ridiculous. This year we have TCU that is In but K State, who beat them on the field is not.

If we are going to multi-team playoff, and invite non-division winners, wild-card games must be added so sitting around on championship weekend isn't a bye week.

Someone in here or another thread wanted to equate the Braves 2021 WS title to not being the best team in 2021; the Braves used the rules to be "in" and won the games they need to in the playoff, no one sat around in a room and selected any of the teams in the playoffs or gave teams that had "better" resumes a chance that wasn't earned on a diamond.

Set rules (e.g. only conference champions) and let the chips fall where they may. The only human element in selecting a season champion should be the humans actually competing.

Also, in 1952, sportswriters should have been voting for GT over Michigan State. To hell with the AP.

My point was the Braves won their division in 2021, so they were in regardless of not having a "worthy" W/L record. That will happen at times, but a wild card allows a worthy non division/conference champ a shot. If that's how it's set up, then fine, just include all conference champs, otherwise the conferences mean nothing. Every other sport has conference champs as auto-qualifiers. It's silly not to.

Lately I just disagree with every change the NCAA makes to football. Is it me being too conservative or do they suck? 12 is a stupid number, öööö off. 6 fine, 8 fine, 12 öööö off

I don’t disagree with you. It is all corrupt and has been. BUT, every round of expansion makes it less and less corrupt. The voting era was the most corrupt system ever in the history of sports. Then the BCS era came and while still corrupt we at least had a game to take it away from sports writer and we could actually watch a game decide a Natty. Then came the 4 game playoff. So, again, while we argue today over the top 4 we now have 3 games that is way fairer than no games. Soon we enter the 12 team playoff which is not really corrupt at all as surely the top team will be in the top 12 selected. But, if not, we can all relax knowing the next iteration will be 24 or more teams. At long last we will have achieved a system where every team regardless of conference, fluke plays, or bad officiating will have a chance to prove themselves on the field. And the Bama’s and UGA’s won’t have a free pass to a Natty.
