The ACC is about to go on a heck of a run I do believe. Yes, talent matters and it is something to be concerned about. But we pull our talent from the #4 most talented state in the country. UNC and Clemson do not. Miami and FSU do and their talent has never changed over the years. But we are 4-0 in the last 3 years against those two. I do believe that Virginia state talent is better than most think so VPI is always a problem even though their classes are never highly ranked.
California has 250 recruits feeding a slew of schools.
Florida has 225 recruits feeding three, now fourish schools.
Texas has 225 recruits feeding 8 schools.
Georgia has 125 recruits feeding 2 schools.
La has 70 recruits feeding 2 schools.
South Carolina has 25 recruits feeding 2 schools.
North Carolina has 50 recruits feeding 5 schools.
Maryland has 25 recruits feeding 1 school.
Who are the real powerhouses in football:
USC, plenty of 5 star recruits to pick from (until somebody starts really playing football in the state).
Texas, plenty of 5 star recruits to pick from.
Florida/FSU/Miami, plenty of 5 star recruits to pick from.
LSU, plenty of their own.
GT/UGA Plenty to pick from as long as they keep them away from the other schools. As Tech rises, Auburn, Clemson, USCe, UT will all fall.
VPI picks from a solid state.
Ohio State and Penn State have to go out of their state to get speed, Michigan occassionally.
Without going further, my point is that Georgia Tech is uniquely situated to pick up plenty of recruits in state as well as plenty from Florida. We could play with the big boys again IF the state continues to generate academically talented football players.
In my humble opinion, this issue is going to get better and better. Additionally, PJ is known as a winner in the state and the country and has lots of built up respect in this state. I'm no worried about UNC's talent. We have to play the best to become the best anyway.
