Suppose we invented a time machine (we're from Georgia Tech, we can do that) and set up a game between CPJ's OB winning 2014 team with Justin Thomas, Shaq Mason (best player of the CPJ era IMO), an underutilized Darren Waller, and others against this year's CGC team.

It's no question the 2014 team would easily win. What's the margin of victory?

Here’s how it could be relatively close:

2014 was 104th in the country at defending the run. I think this team could run the ball on that one.

The blueprint would be Duke. Run the ball ~50 times. Keep the offense off the field. Johnson presses when other offenses play keep away.

2021 would drive down the field on the backs of Mason and Gibbs and then miss FGs which would eat up a lot of clock.

2014 would score most every possession but not get many.

I’m thinking 2014 wins something like 31-14 as it is basically a running clock.

Why would CGC run plays that continually work when he has precious recruits to keep happy?

True but it was a miraculous comeback win over GSU with 23 seconds left. Just pointing out that we looked almost equally as bad first game of 2014 as we did Saturday.
I disagree we looked just as bad. But we certainly almost lost. It also wasn’t the first game. That was a 38-19 beating of Wofford.

In that same first weekend GA Southern lost by 1 to NC State.

they finished 9-3

The 2014 team lost to 2014 Duke and unc...they could have absolutely lost to this team

The 2014 was team was some kind of karmic reward for all the times we have gotten screwed as a team.

we had
- the miraculous fumble by GSU.
- five fumbles by Pitt in a single quarter
- Deshaun Watson injury
- uga fumbles twice inside the 20
- mark Richt coaches the final minute like Geoff Collins
- Duke loses to VT by one point giving us the ACC coastal

All the bullshit that usual happens to us happened to our opponents.

I haven't seen anything from this staff to indicate they're willingly to consistently take advantage of an opponent's weakness. And while I like our current secondary, I firmly believe they'd get caught napping a time or two and give up big gains.

CPJ would ram it down Clown in Chief’s throat. 75-21.

Wasn’t that also the game with the complete horseshit fumble call that the mutts ran back? That game was its own karmic closed loop.

edit - and the JT fumble that was clearly a ööööing pass.

Yes to both. I felt like complete trash that day, and the end of that game almost killed me.
