Wasn’t that also the game with the complete horseshit fumble call that the mutts ran back? That game was its own karmic closed loop.

edit - and the JT fumble that was clearly a ööööing pass.
Also don’t forget the blocked extra point in OT followed by the pick to end it.

He did just remind us that he was part of that MSU team that was ranked #1 for 10 weeks. What did we beat them by?

True but it was a miraculous comeback win over GSU with 23 seconds left. Just pointing out that we looked almost equally as bad first game of 2014 as we did Saturday.
That was the third game. The first game was a comfortable victory over Wofford.

The 2014 team lost to 2014 Duke and unc...they could have absolutely lost to this team
Everybody öööös on Duke and acts like the mid 2010s Duke teams were the equivalent of the early 2000s Ted Roof teams. They weren’t. The 2014 Duke team won 9 games. They didn’t suck.

they beat 1 team with a winning record that year.. guess who?

they beat 6 teams that won 3 or less games. Absolute joke of a schedule. Maybe easiest ever?

we forced their two fumbles at the goal line.
they ripped the ball out of JT's hands when he was at the bottom of the pile across the goal line.
at least, that's what i believe

It wasn't that comfortable. We blew em out in the second half.
PJ was about to have a stroke when their little fullback went 85 yards up the middle late in the second quarter. We drove and scored right before the half, got the ball to start the second half and it was nighty-night.

2021 team öööö the bed on their first crack at that this year.

I didn’t say they were Alabama, I said they weren’t Ted Roof’s Duke teams. They won 9 games and they beat the teams they were supposed to beat. They lost to VT and Arizona State by a combined 6 points. Yes, Miami and UNC thumped then, but they weren’t a bad team that year.

The 2014 team got better as the season went due to buy-in from the players and good coaching.

The real question is "will the 2021 team show a similar improvement path"?

If played against the 2014 Jackets at the beginning of the season, the 2014 team would win by around 5 tds. If the game was against the end of the season 2014 Jackets, the 222-0 may be in doubt.

The 2021 team is not that bad. Jesus. At least they haven't shown to be yet. Against NI, we had more offensive yards in every category. After their first 2 scoring drives, our D largely shut them down until we choked on that last drive.

It's never as good or bad as it seems.

Well, we beat a top 10 ranked MSU by 15. Assuming Mullen + Dak are a more dynamic threat than our offense now, 30 isn’t unreasonable.

OTOH, the bad side of the 2014 team could lose to anybody.

The PJ apologists love to act like Duke wasn't Puke during the PJ Era when they were whipping PJ on the field and recruiting. Glad that era is over.
Steve Spurrier left Duke in 1989. From 1990 until David Cutcliffe got there in 2008, Duke won 43 games in 18 years. Cutcliffe won 45 games from 2013 until 2018, a span of 6 years.

I understand that you feel that Duke sucked the same as they always have, but the facts don't match up with your feelings. I'm sorry about that.

Given you joined StingTalk the day after CPJ was hired shouldn’t you have left the day after he quit and gone back to rooting for your cow college?
I was going to Tech games before PJ got hired.

No, Duke was and still is mostly Puke. A couple of puke-fluke years aside, losing to them should never be OK for a program. Sadly, most of our losses to them under PJ were of the dominant-blowout variety.**

** - none of which excuses the current coach and the poor product that was trotted out last Saturday.

The 2014 was team was some kind of karmic reward for all the times we have gotten screwed as a team.

we had
- the miraculous fumble by GSU.
- five fumbles by Pitt in a single quarter
- Deshaun Watson injury
- uga fumbles twice inside the 20
- mark Richt coaches the final minute like Geoff Collins
- Duke loses to VT by one point giving us the ACC coastal

All the bullshit that usual happens to us happened to our opponents.
A couple notes: the GSU fumble was actually a great effort play by Jamal Golden to not only cover the pitch man, but swat the ball down. They u[sic]ga fumbles were inside the 5, and they also didn't field a sky kick late in the game.
