2020 Recruiting

You cant compare two in 10 years to one/two in 1 year.

This list was made from a combination of names I remembered from following recruiting closely over the last decade and scanning UGA/Bama commit lists. It is by no means comprehensive. Maybe I'll sit down one of these days and try to make a comprehensive one. Hopefully it's enough for you.

2009
Brandon Thompson #9 DT in the country OVed to Tech before picking Clemson

2009
JC Lanier #31 DT in the country - committed to Tech over Clemson

2010
Anthony Williams #13 WDE in the country committed to Tech

2010
TJ Stripling #4 WDE in the country OVed to Tech a few weeks before NSD. IIRC we had little hope by the end, but were definitely Top 5.

2010
Mike Thornton #15 DT in the country visited Tech for the upset of #4 VT - can't remember where we finished though

2011
Stephon Tuitt #2 SSDE in the country committed to Tech before his mom was paid by ND to flip right before NSD

2011
Darian Cooper #33 DT in the country OVed to Tech before choosing Iowa. I actually interviewed him back in the day.

2012
Dalvin Tomlinson #11 DT in the country OVed to Tech. Tech finished 2nd and was hoping Bama wouldn't have room.

2012
Jordan Jenkins #6 WDE in the country was talked about as a Tech lean early in the cycle. Wanted to do engineering. UGA got an engineering program and we ended up without an OV.

2012
John Atkins #40 DT in the country had Tech in his Final 5. Rumored that Tech finished 2nd or 3rd (committed to UGA). IIRC he was ranked higher before getting hurt in HS.

2014
Lorenzo Carter #3 WDE in the country was talked about with Tech early in the cycle a lot before ending up at UGA. Think he might have had ties to us.

Visits? If we are simply counting visits then whatever. Atlanta will always put us high on visit lists.

CGC hasnt landed either target yet, so so far this is a waste to argue.

J.C. Lanier was a big get for us at the time. What happened to him....injuries or some type of medical condition?

What? OV implies Top 5 finish. Which was literally what was being discussed. Also if anything, we lose out on OVs because it’s any easy destination for unofficial visits.

Just didn’t match the hype IIRC. Was a four star on both sites. Eventually got moved to OL I think.

"Implies" =/= reality.

Lots of guys who know where they want to go still take all their OVs, and if its just a trip, ATL beats every ACC or SEC free trip location except maybe Miami, Boston and Nashville (depending on what you are into). Most schools are in seen-one-seen-em-all hick college towns.

Don’t worry. Regardless of this ridiculous logic, I’m still adding to the list. Wasn’t even thinking of the guys who actually made it to campus in Williams/Woods.

Were we talking DEs? Why are you compiling DEs?

Probably because somebody said this just a few posts ago.

Don't be silly. WTTE of my comment can be found on pretty much any college football message board. I would be curious how many Div 1 DTs entered college as a DT, and compare that to other positions.

Upgraded recruiting doesnt mean we get to pick our players first. There are a small number of ready DTs. The competition for them is insane. We have a better chance of making an all-ACC DT from a DE recruit with the right measurables than someone much below 50 or so on the DT recruit list. I trust the staff to make the right call here.

For öööös sake are you retarded? I said we have a better chance of making a DT from a converted DE. Why did I say that? Why would I say that? Would I say that if we never got DEs? Nope. I would say that because we have done better on DEs. And there are more of them. There are a lot more 6'5 235 lb athletic 17 year olds than 6'5" 285lb athletic 17 year olds. Then you spend three years putting 50 plus pounds of muscle on them and move them inside.

OK. Im done. You are a nasty, negative person that I dont want to be around. Be sure not to close the garage door while your car is not running.

The narrative that being in the Top 5 for good DL is something new under CGC is a fabrication of people who just started following recruiting.

You cant compare two in 10 years to one/two in 1 year.

No one said it’s something new exactly. But, I’ve been following GT recruiting for 15 years and can count on 1 hand the amount of top DL we’ve attracted to seriously consider us.

So seeing the possibility of it picking up is exciting. Just like listening to Derrick Morgan Saturday talk about CGC being instrumental in building those relationships within the class. Hopefully he can bring more players of that caliber here

Were we talking DEs? Why are you compiling DEs?

Is it that you realize you’re wrong or that you honestly don’t know what DL means?

:lol2:

Mods you can go ahead and clean this up if needed. I think we’re done here.

Jay Hardy took an unofficial to Auburn last week. He still has us in his top 5. He's going to take more OV's; he has already had his OV with Tech.

Unfortunately he is hurt right now, took a god-awful cheap shot. He will be back for the playoffs reportedly.

Pretty awful move by West Forsyth. Glad he was able to walk off at least. He's 2nd from the right, #8 on the kicking team.
